Notes: Our Cognac Barrel Aged Belgian Dark Ale is so elegant, that its aromas of dried dates and brown sugar and notes of toffee, ripe plum and spice may make you feel more dignified with each sip.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a Speiglau BA glass.

Look is a dark hazy brown with only a trace of reddish highlights and an off white head.

Aroma of cognac and Belgian yeast come through right away.

Taste is a great mix of Belgian candi sugar and yeast and a slight barrel note.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown with only slight light transmission and a fine three finger khaki head with great retention and thick lacing. Looks great. Aroma of mildly caramel and light biscuit malt, Belgian yeast, dates and a hint of cocoa. Flavor is caramel malt, raisins, dates, figs, distinct cognac with some light woody oak in the finish. Medium bodied with light creaminess and active, peppery carbonation. Wow, the cognac really fits with this Belgian dark profile, enhancing the fruit notes without really adding much fortified vinousness. A little spritzy in carbonation is the only slight flaw. Everything is well integrated and balanced throughout the taste. One of the more enjoyable barrel aged Belgian style ales I've had. Nicely done.

Murky, medium-brown body; dense, creamy head; sheets of foam clinging to the glass. Light aroma of cinnamon spice and brown sugar; sweet, fruity, and cognac elements. Caramel and brown sugar flavors; a faint undercurrent of alcohol. Heavy body; coarse on the palate; warm with a smidge of boozy heat.

A decent dark, strong ale. It is decently balanced and has some moderate complexity to pull you into its depths.

The Cognac is a really delicious and quite unexpected flavor. It feels like clouds of marshmallows bursting in your mouth. Lovely appearance with the dark amber brew topped by fine-grained off-white foam in the Ciney snifter. Clean and a little tangy with modest Belgian yeasty flavor.

Hints of burnt sugar, dates, and brandy. There is a woody barrel note in the aftertaste that is also pleasant. Mellow and highly sippable. From the 375 ml bottle purchased at Central Market - Shoreline. More attractively priced than so many other barrel-aged specialties.
