Gotta show some respect to the Wine Cabinet in Reston. I actually lived right across the street from this store years ago, but only first visited about two weeks ago. Solid atmosphere, but really it's all about service, selection and value.

Service is stellar. Dave, the beer guy there, is always willing to talk about beer. Tell you what's coming in week to week. He also manages a Facebook page, which is necessary nowadays, where he details what beer is arriving. He also takes pre-orders from the FB page. Only store to do that in Northern VA that I'm aware of. Huge help for a guy that can't get out of the office during the day. There are two beer tastings a week, and they are good beer -- no shelf turds. Great service.

The selection isn't as big Total Wine. It rivals some Whole Foods, though. WF Fairfax has a bigger selection. But, the selection at the Wine Cabinet manages to stand apart from WF and TW. They get most of the big releases -- they got Backwoods Bastard; they got BCBS and the variants. They're the only store I'm aware of that has a pretty massive Evil Twin selection. They always have a good selection of big Stout and other barrel aged stuff. It's a solid selection. It's easy to spend money there. The only place I found Uinta Oaked Jack Pumpkin Ale and Abraxas -- for example. Best selection in Reston for sure. Best selection between WF Fairfax and Total Wine Sterling.

The value runs the gamut, but I'll say this -- the prices are competitive with TW and WF. For example -- they sold Backwoods Bastard for $12.99. Whole Foods sold it for $10.99. But, the Wine Cabinet sold BCBSC for $22.99. Whole Foods sold BCBSC for $6 a bottle. Cheaper at WC. Another example -- Mogli is about $3 less at WC than it is at TW. So, it just depends, but overall the cost of beer is reasonable.

If you're in Reston. If you're visiting Reston. This is definitely the first place to visit, and I will be shopping here much more often.
