Very Good
Winter AleWinter Ale
Notes: This deep mahogany red strong ale is a classic example of a winter warmer that’s high in alcohol and rich in taste. An excellent balance of malty sweetness and hoppy bitterness, gives aromas of Christmas cake with hints of black treacle and vine fruits.

The beer is clear dark brown, a high tan head that settles slowly, leaving some lacing and a few curtains.

Sweet syrup, cereal, bread and oranges.

Starting with sweet brown bread, some honey and syrup, some mild burned notes, nuts and apples.

Medium low carbonation, slightly spritzy bubbles, soft with a big body, a slight dryness.

In all a very decent winter warmer.

enjoyed while watching this years toy show, took no notes, lovely dark mahogany colour, creamy off white head with great retention, nice black bread caramel toasty malt flavour, treacle and milk chocolate, earthy, sweet, pretty wintery, pretty drinkable, lacking in depth of flavour somewhat though, but still reasonably nice.

Opaque black color. Slightly creamy light brown 1 finger head, lasting around 5 minutes, with decent legs and swirl reaction. Flavors of toffee, dark grains, raisins, walnuts, and herbal hops. Slick creamy medium to full body with light carbonation. Medium strength finish, malty roasted feel with soft leafy hops. Decent freshness, good balance, and well bodied for the style. Warms up pretty well indeed. Overall very good quality craft.

From elcervecero. In Ikea's pint glass. Playing Blackwell Legacy. Complex, with smokey and coffee notes and still very drinkable. Not what I expected in a winter beer but still great. Much better than the St Peter's brews Ive bought in ECI: because the recipe or because the conservation?

500 ml medicine bottle served just above fridge temperature into a pint glass. One of those beers I've seen many times before (especially at this time of the year) but never bothered to pick up. Let's give it a try.

Appearance - St. Peter's winter ale pours the darkest of ruby coloured beers, so dark that it may appear dark brown or even near black. A small half finger of off white head has modest retention and leaves a small swath of lacing down the sides of the glass.

Smell - pretty good aroma, some thick grainy aromas and hints of orchard fruits such as pear and plum. Overall smells like and amped up dark mild ale. Christmas spice aromas are sort of there, but toned down and definitely not distracting for what promises to be a very good beer.

Taste - some graininess, some fruitiness and a mild bitterness. Orchard fruits throughout and the Christmas spices are present but only in a supporting role. Complex. Some liquorice and butterscotch start up after a few sips and enhance this beer. After a few sips, substitute orchard fruits with raisins. Yum!

Mouthfeel - smooth with some creaminess, moderate body and definitely not a dry finish.

Overall - a well crafted holiday beer, with a festive presence but never overdoing things and ensuring that you enjoy the base beer with its holiday accents.

Lovely winter warmer. Reminds me of Brewdog's Dogma. Dark, with reddish hue, caramely, but with great balance, medium mouthful. Alongside Cream Stout, the best beer from St. Peter's.

Dark brown with a frothy tan head, popping away fast, leaving just some messy lacing.
Smells quite rich, with nice toffee, caramel, some cocoa, even sweet coffee, nicely roasted malts, dark bread, spices, butterscotch.
Sweet malty taste, rich with toffee and caramel. Light layer of dark chocolate, some fig and raisin, but nice roasted dark malts right away. Bready middle, with some spices showing up (light licorice, cinnamon, really faint nutmeg). Finishes roastier, but not burnt, nutty, with some dusty cocoa powder and warm alcohol.
Aftertaste is pretty poor, a bit of nut and dark malt, earthy hop, bit of alcohol. Light bodied, medium carbonated.
A nice winter warmer, probably one of the best beers from St. Peter's.

There is an (for me at least) rather uncomfortable after taste dominating here. I don't know whether it's the date or perhaps the liquorice. Safe to say, this is not my cup of....eh....glass of beer.
