(green, 500 ml bottle, code 16207 ... poured at cellar temp into a proper British nonic pint)

L: bottle has thin ring of sediment midway on neck, washed away during pour... brown liquid, dark garnet highlights; finger-high, messy, silky-creamy tan foam... thin cap persisted

S: light caramel, turbinado, light molasses... touch of flowery hops; soft, subtly apple-like esters... mellow degree of roastiness, perhaps more on par with a slightly-roasty brown ale... even at a cellar temp, the aromas don't exactly explode, but what's there is nice

T: popping flash of a raunchy twinge (only) on first sip that immediately gave way to a rich, almost milk chocolaty malt that persisted through each sip... mellow, lingering, herbal bitterness, along with some delicate dark-toasty grain in the aftertaste... firm caramel underbelly, but a rather dry finish

F: feather-soft, subtly sudsy carbonation... plush, medium body with a touch of chewiness... liquid heaven

O: sorry I've passed this by countless times over the years - this is actually quite excellent (and these marks may improve with subsequent savorings), and I'd undoubtedly get this again forever

I think I had a poorly sealed bottle, it seemed a bit flat. No head or lacing. Taste and smell were good. Nice chocolate and licorice notes. Otherwise, this would have been a drain pour. I have liked St. Peter’s brews before, I will give this another try sometime.

500 ml bottle into imperial pint glass, bottled on 3/24/2016. Pours crystal clear very dark reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted dark bread, herbal, and pepper; with lighter notes of smoke, char, nuttiness, dark fruit, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted dark bread, herbal, and pepper; with lighter notes of smoke, char, nuttiness, dark fruit, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop and roast/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted dark bread, smoke, char, herbal, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a nice roast/hop malt/bitterness balance; some light lingering hop/char astringency near the end of the glass. Light-moderate dryness from hop/char bitterness, increasing through the glass. Light carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.1%. Overall this is an excellent English porter. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Seems like a cross between Brown/Robust porters in style. A very enjoyable offering.

Taste - chocolate, coffee-ish, moderate hop bitterness.
Medium body, soft carbonation, chewy. Very good beer.

With a nice, dark mahogany color, it has that roasty peat flavor that compliments the balanced, slightly sweet complexion of the beer. There is also a nice caramel, light, refined coffee, and sweetened dark fruits. The aroma has dark chocolate milk and a very nice, refined roastiness that’s not so in your face. Thanks to the smooth carbonation, the mouthfeel is refreshingly light. This is a very uncomplicated porter brewed the way porters are supposed to be! This is like a peaty version of the Old Goat stout from San Marcos Brewing Company.

A: Dark brown to black, nearly opaque, thin khaki head, good lacing

S: Roasted malts, yeast

T: Sweetness of the roasted malts, a slight bitterness, then a chocolaty aftertaste

M: Velvety, medium fullness

O: Really quality beer. Smell comes in well and the taste is great. Mouthfeel really lets you know its a good beer.

I like this a lot. It is actually a blend of old and new porters that gave the porters in the 18th century their unique taste that I have read about. Naturally I wasn't there at the time so I can only imagine the experience, but this porter has an ever so slight sour taste that hits the back of my tongue. It is by no means offensive, as it changes to dark roasted coffee and molasses and to a citrus (!?) note for a split second then back to roastiness. Truly this is one of the great and unique porters out there if you can find it.
