750ml corked/caged bottle. Batch 2.10.21. Served in a slightly tulippy wineglass.

Pours dark purple, looks pretty still. Fairly clear (but I left about an inch in the bottle). Smell is tart, berry jam.

Taste is very tart, very dry. Lots of berry, but no sweetness. A little bit of wood. Almost a red grape tartness.

Mouthfeel is very light and very dry, a little cottonmouth-inducing. Overall, it's a good beer, but it's very intense.

Thank you BigIronH for this beer! Bottled on 02-02-19.

A - Pours a slightly hazy dark cherry color with soapy, dense, creamy lacing.

S - Cherry aroma with ALOT of twang and a slight bit of oxidation.

T - Tart cherry, a little bit of oak, with some Pinot Noir, all with puckering qualities.

M - Medium body, very dry, and very puckering.

O - Way too tart and puckering for my palate!

a really cool brew here, one i have never heard of, and i feel like i keep pretty close tabs on these guys. this is a wild strong ale in pinot noir wine barrels with marionberries, righteous! its well mature now, this bottle is from 2019, and its drinking fantastic, still high acid, but less intensely sour to me than a lot of their beers, especially the well aged ones, its sharp but not acetic, and that really allows the fruit to pop. the nose is strong wet wood, dark cherry and blackberry character, a whisper or wildflower honey, currant, port wine, and lemon, plenty of funk on this too, its not all pucker, dynamic and complex, although relatively familiar on the ferment now that i have had a fair few of their beers. the flavor is great, the berries are bold in here, not fermented out or faded from time, they still seem fresh and even carry some sweetness which is nice for balance. they have some tannins and some tang too, and seem perfect for pinot barrels, i get a bunch of other dark fruit character there and its amazing with the wood. vinous sure, but still plenty beery too, with a fuller malt body and some toasted grain character in there giving this even more depth. light fruit vinegar and sherry notes as it warms, citric and bright still, and with a lot of carbonation even though the beer doesnt hold a big head in the glass. a great expression of marionberries, a well disguised alcohol potency, and overall another gem from these guys. huge thanks to my buddy for bringing this one over, a rare and special bottle indeed!

The look is an opaque reddish-brown with a fair amount of head.

The smell is lemon and barley and rye malts. There's a small amount of dill pickle juice, but it doesn't really drag the whole thing down. In fact, it suggests it would compliment a Cuban sandwich nicely.

Taste is an intense sweet'n'sour. There's also an apple cider quality. Honeysuckle, too. Slight but detectable wood-and-grain. It seems to evolve quickly as it warms. There's some astringency, but it fades quickly. It also seems to transition to an amalgam of ciders, expanding to include pear and cherry, although apple is still the leader. Fresh plums. It's very rich all the way through.

The carbonation might be good for the head, but I'd prefer a little less in the feel. It's deceptively sugary, leaving a little too much film for me. Weight is medium, and aftertaste matches the flavors well.

750 mL bottle. Reddish murky body. Big white head. Smells of berries, red wine, and acidity. Tastes more of red wine. Some sweet maltiness. Musty and oaky. Sweet berry fruitiness. Sourness builds into the finish. Heavy and kinda boozy. It's one of the more straightforward Ale Apothecary beers, even though it's still a complex beer.
