Treated as an American Wild ale, this was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a hazy burnt out orange almost brown color with a thin white foamy finger’s head that dissipates ever so slowly leaving a glaze of foamy lacing all around the glass. The aroma starts off with funky / wild berry / barrel to woodiness. White pepper spiciness. Grassy bitter hops. Clean earthiness. And then more funk. Sour green apple flesh and skin. Muscat vinous grapes really impound the backdrop the aroma. The flavor starts off with the vinous qualities up front with a smooth sour and then the dry woody barrel helps to balance. Sour green apple skin and flesh. Smooth sour aftertaste with a quick finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation yields at a good level. Overall, nice as an American Wild ale, but fails as an IPA.

I loved this! Funky, sour, vey carbonated - so many things going on and all of them good. Whole Foods, Berkeley, CA, April 2017

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2016 vintage dating on the cork. Pours slightly hazy medium orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, mango, papaya, guava, white grape, peppercorn, pine, hay, straw, leather, oak, musty funk, light caramel, bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, citrus/tropical/pine hops, oak, and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge tart lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, mango, papaya, guava, white grape, peppercorn, pine, hay, straw, leather, oak, musty funk, light caramel, bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/oak earthiness. Good amount of yeast/tannic oak spiciness, piney bitterness, and fruity/acidic tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, mango, papaya, guava, white grape, peppercorn, pine, hay, straw, leather, oak, musty funk, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, citrus/tropical/pine hops, oak, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/bitter/spiciness balance, and minimal astringent flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitter/tart/spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, sticky/acidic/tannic/grainy, and lightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is an awesome Brett IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, citrus/tropical/pine hops, oak, and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink, even with the strong bitter/spicy flavors. A very enjoyable offering.

Hadn't had a bottle fizz out like that on me. Not a good start.

Appearance is a murky brown orange. Fine head, though.

The smell is a mixed bag. There's some candied citrus, but it also has some overly earthy funkiness.

The taste is the best thing about this brew, but unfortunately, it's by default. Not a lot of sweetness, but bitter, savory, and sour all get along. One can mark it down for being slightly salty and having a bog-like taste, too. If there's any fruit, it's there with the bitter components. I'll go with starfruit and a white grapefruit that's missing its citrus acidity. It gets better as it warms up. Maybe pineapple, but again missing the sweetness and acidity.

The feel is much less carbonated than would be suggested by the opening of the bottle. There's still a little bit of prickliness, and it's a bit thinner than I'd expect for either a wild ale or an IPA.

I had this one stored on its side since it had a cork (but upright for a few weeks). Maybe I should switch my other Libertine bottles to upright.

A: Pale amber, generous head, good retention, minimal lacing.
AR: Brett funk, oak, fruity hops, musty earthiness.
T: Follows nose, slight astringent/bitter character on the finish, hint of nuttiness on the finish.
M: Light body, smooth and wet on the palate, medium carbonation.

More brett presence than hop. Needs some balance. Otherwise, very enjoyable and easy-drinking.

This is one of the most well balanced beers I have had in some time. The sour with the oak and the hops interplay beautifully. Pours a lovely golden straw color with a voluptuous bubbly head. Medium smooth mouthfeel with a wonderful balance of flavors. Highly recommended!

Very hazy golden body, medium head which is bone white. Aroma is a a mixture of bright citrus, brine salt, some fermented fresh wood. Flavor is mildly bitter, mostly an upfront funkiness and light lime...complex and interesting. A fun beer!
