Style: Gose

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.90%

Notes / Commercial Description:
Formerly known as Pacific Ocean Blue

Our Gose recipe has changed many times over the years but the one constant is the use of our local sea water for the salt additions. This tart and slightly salty golden ale is a brewery favorite and truly gives you a taste of our Central Coast region in a glass.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2016 vintage bottling on the cork. Pours slightly hazy pale golden/yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big lightly tart lemon, lime, peach, pear, green apple, melon, white grape, white wine, hay, straw, grass, oak, sea water, wheat, and cracker; with light notes of leathery/musty funk, peppercorn, vanilla, white vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, oak barrel, sea water, and light-moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lightly tart lemon, lime, peach, pear, green apple, melon, white grape, white wine, hay, straw, grass, oak, sea water, wheat, and cracker; with light notes of leathery/musty funk, peppercorn, vanilla, white vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate lactic tartness and yeast/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, peach, pear, green apple, melon, white grape, white wine, hay, straw, grass, oak, sea water, wheat, cracker, peppercorn, leathery/musty funk, light vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, oak barrel, sea water, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tart/spiciness balance, and zero puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from tart/spiciness and carbonation, increasing through the glass. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, acidic/grainy, and lightly saline/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is a outstanding gose! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, oak barrel, sea water, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink with the mellowly lactic/tannic/drying finish. Really spot on Brett complexity and oak presence; solid malt balance; and not overly saline/salty or lactic. A highly enjoyable offering.

A: The beer is rather hazy pale yellow in color. It poured with a half finger high white head that consistently left a short head covering the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of sour citrus are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has a moderate amount of sourness with flavors of lemony citrus, oak, and sea salt.
M: It feels light-bodied and rather tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is pleasantly refreshing. I particularly like how the oak and the lemons lended some tartness to the mouthfeel.

Note: 2016 vintage

A powerful and elegant gose. Extremely bright with plenty of citrus flavor.
