L: Pours hazy orange amber under a cream to off white densely bubbles 1” white foam column that takes 3 minutes to drop. Fairly lacy. S: Grassy with lsome light toast and a trace of warm, woody aromas. T: Grassy hops with some spice and mint with the mint growing by the finish. It has an herbal, tannic bitterness riding on a solid malt backbone. Hop forward with medium high hop flavors, medium to medium high bitterness and medium malt. F: Very creamy balanced by a light carbonic acid bight with a medium body and carbonation. O: This is a very easy to drink American IPA packing a lot of flavor into a 12 oz. can.

12 oz can served chilled into a shaker pint glass.

Ultra Gnar Gnar is a hazy copper color with thick white head. It has good retention and lacing.

Aroma has a mineral or metallic quality that is unique but not particularly pleasant.

Flavor is balanced and has good depth but doesn't have much In the way of hop taste. It's malty with caramel and toasted grains and there's good bitterness from the hops but it's more grassy and earthy than citrus and pine.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely carbonated. Balanced for the style.

Overall a decent PNW IPA but the aroma brings it down.

Hazy amber color with beige head. Aroma has overripe oranges and sweet malt. Taste starts bitter up-front with earthy hops, tea leaves and underlying malt. Medium body and carbonation. Had this quite old but it held up well.

Poured from a can.

Appearance: copper. Hazy. Thick foamy head.
Smell: oranges and flowers. Caramel.
Taste: cracker malts. Orange peel, grapefruit peel. Pine needles. Lingering bitterness.
Mouthfeel: medium carbonation. Medium high body. Thick-ish.
Overall: this is a pretty decent IPA. Would be much better if the finishing hops were not so harsh.

Cloudy gold with two fingers of five minute head. Good fine bubble lace.
Smell is light hop resins.
Taste is hop oil piney with a bit of floral hop. Good amount of malt backbone.
Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated with a medium bitter and slightly dry finish.
Overall n easy drinking IPA that seems closer to a hoppy Pale Ale.
Tasty enough for a repeat.

Super malty in terms of nose. Like fresh cut hay and yeast bomb. Look is murky ready orange body with a biscuity tan head. Flavor is dominated by the malt with the hops acting as a balancer. Woodsy overall in flavor an d very easy to drink.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a slightly hazy medium coppery amber with a healthy one finger off-white head with good retention and thick lacing. Aroma of orange citrus, caramel malt with light biscuit, moderate citrus and piney hops, light earthy spiciness. Flavor is resinous piney, grassy and citrus hops, orange citrus, caramel and biscuit malt. Just before the finish there is an interesting estery fruit flavor before a lingering citrus rind hop finish. Medium bodied with a touch of creaminess. A very flavorful, hoppy IPA with good hops flavors. I liked the little burst of estery fruit midway through the taste quite a bit and this kept me coming back for tastes. Well balanced and interesting. I'd imagine that this would taste like heaven after a day of hiking. I will get this again.

12 oz can from "Lifesource" in Salem OR
$1.79..no longer retired and now 6.7% alc.
Good looking beer here..hazy amber with a good looking thick and creamy inch high head.
Nice spicy ,fruity, pithy hop aroma with a great malt caramel backing.
More "dank" in the taste and with hints of orange pips..malt is strong in this one.
Good creamy substantial mouth feel for style.
Typical good PNW style IPA.

12oz can with my FW Imperial Nonic Glass
Notes from 06/24/2015

A: Pours an orange washed golden caramel body with some modest chill haze that obstructs some of the clarity. The head is a dense khaki sponge that retains well long enough for the glass walls to catch some sticky streaks before it comes to rest back in the glass. .

S: Light spruce action with caramels and toasted bread. I am getting some dank resin in form of pine mostly to it but this one is more about the malt caramel spice here. Picking up a little alcohol in the nose as well. Seems pretty heavy on the malt sweetness for an IPA.

T: Flavor maintains a nice juicy hop showing however the scales ultimately tip in favor of a heavier malt bill. I get a solid mix of toasted bread and caramel candies although it’s not cloyingly sweet. Keeps relatively crisp with some cutting bitterness and flavors are predominately piney with some dank floral and spice notes. Alcohol asserts probably more than expected here and especially in the finish. Some orange zest there. All in all not the best balance achieved here.

M: The body is moderate to lightly heavy on account of malt bounty found in the mouthfeel. A little spritzy carb and some scrubbing bitterness helps to keep things on the lighter side. Finishes with a drying note and a somewhat clean feel overall with a mild lingering effect.

D: Pretty unmemorable for me. At least nothing good enough to make me want to come back to this one. Balance is a bit off and just not enough hop gnar here. The best features of this brew are the name and packaging really.
