Slightly hazy orange yellow with quickly settling head. Smells of slightly funky citrus. Taste is a little grassy, a little peppery, some citrus that might be a little too ripe. Mouthfeel is pretty clean, moderately carbonated, a little hop oiliness. Overall, not as good as I'd hoped - the taste is a little off.

Spotted a dusty very old set of cans on a shelf today. The printing on bottom of can seems to be the date 09/29/15. I decided to try one to see how it held up to age. Color about the same, but the head is huge and not quickly settling now. Other aspects are about the same, but the flavor seems to have developed more of a Belgian candy flavor. Maybe that is the aging of what the label says is Belgian yeast working on Canadian Honey Malt. The carbonation is very high, so their fancy can has held up well. My overall rating on this aged sample remains about the same - still quite drinkable but does not stay that close to the usual Saison style.

a very wheaty saison, cloudy and pale yellow, looks almost like a hefe. i smell maybe a mix of yeast strains, a little of that white wine sharpness that comes from the french saison, but quite a bit of the belgian saison spiciness, white pepper and allspice notes in the nose, best of both worlds perhaps. lots of malty sweetness all the way through this one, with some peachy and apple fruity notes from the yeast that exacerbate the sugary aspect. not as dry as i like saison to be, thats for sure, and i think it loses some of its capacity for refreshment because of that, and because of its fuller body and stronger alcohol content as well. this is high abv for the style, at least this kind of take one it, so it seems to lack identity in my opinion. i like the flavor of the wheat malt, and i do like the bigger body it brings. green pear and floral sort of flavors in the finish from the yeast, more belgian than anything else at this point. better as a wheat beer than as a saison i think, but tasty nevertheless.

22 oz bottle

The beer has been in stock at our bar for a little over a month, it was sent to us right as it was going out of season for summer. No bottles date, so I hope it’s still good.

Appearance – Pours a one inch white head into my mason jar, very frothy. The head is hissing away. Body is a lovely orange , slightly cloudy, medium carbonation. Overall it looks nice, head is barely lingering, we’ll see how that end up.

Smell – The smell is fantastic and unique, very sweet, fruity. A slight traditional saison yeast/clove hidden in here. Barely sour, slightly astringent. Just very sweet, lightly fruity, tropical. Mango, papaya, banana.

Taste – Slight clove, a little bitter, surprisingly so. Mildly acidic, with a decent carbonation that adds to that aggressive taste. Upon further sips, the fruit begins to come through. A little bland, not in a really bad way, but still. Overall it’s slightly bitter and acidic, with a fruity undertone, backed by a slight yeast character, it’s so so.

After a while the bitterness begins to add character, it’s turning into a nice American take on a Belgian classic.

Mouthfeel – Sharp, medium carbonation, lingering bitterness. Not bad, but a little off for the style and not soothing. Almost stings the back of the throat, although for 7.1% I can’t complain too much. Confused here, not bad, but off and not fantastic.

Drinkability – For the style the drinkability is low, for the ABV, it’s just about right. I can’t pound it, it has a slight punch to it, and the bitterness and carbonation give it a tang that requires a moment to sit on it.

Overall – Let me start by saying I think this beer is still in the fresh category. As for the taste and everything, it’s an ok beer, a little odd, and kinda all over the place with the flavor. I can respect it for what it is, an aggressive saison, but is that what I’m looking for? I’m not so sure. It’s not a bad beer, and it’s very unique, but there are better options out there.

The head ended up dying, lacing was poor. Really should be a 3, but the body is beautiful, so 3.5.

A hazy yellow gold color with a thin layer of white head that leaves a bit of lacing around the top. Smell is of yeast, spices, fruits, and light bready malt. Taste is of light malts, fruits, spices, and Belgian yeast. Medium body and crisp carbonation. Overall a decent saison but fairly sweet.

Beautiful hazy yellow color with an abundant foam in the Ommegang chalice. Sudsy mouthfeel with a sharp edge. Big funky aroma with a tart zing. This is a very bold Saison. So fruity and strong with alcohol. Interesting and highly sippable. Not too sweet, and the dry Belgian finish leaves it less so. But the malty richness and tangy pear nectar flavor add to the complexity.

From the 22 oz metal bottle. I love these things, seems like the future of beverage packing. Though a slim aluminum can is groovy too. Purchased at Windmill Farms in San Diego.

I don’t pick up many of the saison characteristics here. Malt, fruits, bitter yeast yes, but those don’t make a saison in this way. It’s an ok drinkable beer tho.

A free growler ( rewards) from Growl Movement in Salem OR $12 normally. Slightly hazy golden coloured beer with a good large bubbly white head. Nice sweet and spicy aromas..some lemon like aromas also..subdued but good. Taste similar but can get the dry hop..nice. Very good mouth feel..well carbonated and cleansing. Nice take on the style
