We spent much of the past week around Lexington checking out some of the better beer venues that I had not yet been to. I must admit that the village idiot takes the cake as the best of the bunch.
By definition a Gastro pub is a bar that serves exceptional food and the village idiot hits the definition perfectly.
This place is nestled nicely in a very cool part of downtown Lexington. It is easy to get to and has plenty of reasonable parking that is close by. The vibe of this place is very cool without being too loud or overdone. The beer selection is solid and included approximately 20 taps. Some of the tabs were actually quite rare beers. On this night I enjoyed the three Floyd's hopped in half, a Stone Pataskala red IPAand a Bell's whiskey barrel aged Third Coast Old Ale w/cherries which was phenomenal. The service was very good and I had no problems at all from my server, he actually took care of our every need. He seemed pretty well keyed in on the beers as well. The food was top notch in included a very lively and eccentric menu. My wife enjoyed the Korean fried chicken sandwich and I loved the duck and waffles.
My only quirk from a beer lovers standpoint this is a very expensive place to go enjoy dinner with a beer. I don't normally dine at restaurants of this price magnitude however when I do I want to be well taken care of and not have any regrets. The village idiot did that for me. I had exceptional service, love the atmosphere and really enjoyed the food and the beer.

Really great beer and "Duck and Waffles," which is great! Knowledgeable bar staff, too.

Great little spot around the corner of my hotel.
Tap selection was decent enough. Had a couple Against the Grain beers which were nice and well executed for the style.
Food selection was awesome. Wish I had a bigger appetite as I may have had 2 courses.
Ended up with the Rabbit Pot Pie. Good, but way too many onions.
Went well with my AtG Kentucky Rye'd Chiquen.
Staff was pleasant and the tender knew his stuff.
Thanks again.

The Village Idiot is possibly my new favorite place in Lexington. It's nestled inside an ancient, white brick post office from the 1800's, but don't let the facade fool you, it's modern chic inside. The decor is reminiscent of an upscale jazz lounge and the beer selection is great. They have at least 20 taps, maybe 30, I'm not sure, and lots of bottles as well. Their selection is very diverse and there's something to complement anything on their eclectic menu.
The food here is as delicious as it is unique. As a gastropub, they pride themselves on unique items like Pork Banh Mi, a traditional Vietnamese sandwich, Spring Pea Ravioli, Truffle & Crab Mac & Cheese, and the house Idiot Burger, which includes braised short rib piled inside an oversized fried onion all inside a pretzel bun. The Village Idiot also hosts monthly dinners for a nominal fee which typically include four courses and an accompanying beer for each course. The last one I attended closed with sea salt chocolate truffles and KBS. And guess what, it was awesome.
If you're looking to try something different for dinner and still want to pair it with a great beer, The Village Idiot is perfect.
