Style: Kölsch

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.60%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This bier is delicate and pale with less bitterness than a Pils and less sweetness than a Helles. A subtle fruitiness is the hallmark of this classic style from Köln. Along with Alt, this is one of the last ale holdouts in Germany. (ABV 4.6% 22 IBU'S)

Poured from a 12oz bottle with no clear born on date; into a pint glass.
Appearance- looks like apple cider, with no head and tons of bubbles, however, there is some faint floating sediment. Lacing is completely absent.
Smell - lemon and sweet rolls.
Taste - mimics the nose, however the sweetness is a bit more profound and works well against the grain.
Feel - light body, sweet but very drinkable.
Overall- not a big fan of the style, but this has some nice qualities and is surprisingly tasty.

an entirely passable but also in a lot of ways unremarkable kolsch, served on tap in a pint glass, it might be a shade darker than we are used to seeing in the imports, but clear enough and bright in the glass with a short white head on it that lasts but minutes. the nose and taste have a little astringency to them, maybe its not that fresh, maybe the line is funny, maybe it was sparged or mashed a little warm where the tannins could come out, but the grain and yeast seem right, its not americanized and hoppy, and its relatively clean in the finish even though i would still describe it as off dry. yellow beer with a yellow beer aroma and a pils type taste on the grain side, it doesnt taste as cold conditioned and sort of patient as i like in the style, like it doesnt really refresh me, and its not so crisp, which is the real critique here, but it remains light in body and all, and serves its purpose on a hot day or with a fat plate of tacos. prost makes some great beer, so i am surprised that they didnt do better with a kolsch. did they bottle this? if so, i would like to revisit it in that format...

Light, hazy yellow body topped with a frothy white head. Delicate aroma of light cereal grain and citrus; wheat and lemon; bread crust. Well-blended mixture of light malt grains infused with a mild lemon-like fruitiness; citrus rind; very subtle bitterness. Medium-heavy body; crisp and dry overall on the palate.

This beer brings on some fine, understated flavors with a dollop of citrus tang and deftly balanced dryness. Although being enjoyed on a mild January afternoon along the Colorado Rock Mountain Front Range, this would be an excellent summertime thirst quencher.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into pilsner glass.
Pours a 2" bubbly white head that drops slowly with mild lacing. Color is hazy gold with abundant streaming carbonation. Aroma of yeast rolls, grain husks, lemon & citrus. Flavors of bready, yeasty malts with a tart lemony citrus bite. Overall: a well done Kolsch.

S: rich, bready-doughy malt nose with subtle fruit and hop aromas. Light sweet aroma and a hint of pear. Fresh and balanced nose. The aromas are medium low.

L: pours light gold under a 1/2" white foam cap that rapidly dissipates.

T: smooth and creamy with light malt flavors balancing soft light fruit flavors. Hop flavors are medium low. Hop bitterness and flavor and fruit flavors come out more in the finish. Nicely balanced beer with a slight residual sweetness.

F: light and its carbonation slightly above average

This pours a clear pale gold with plenty of foam.

The smell is of bready malt and quite a bit of fruity notes.

Tastes of bread, grassy hops, and sometimes delicate, sometimes more assertive fruitiness.

Medium body and carbonation.

Excellent Koelsch!

Light, refreshing, perfect summertime beer. An easy pour yielded a nice marshmallow fluff head that soon retreated, leaving lots of bubbles. Golden straw color. Smells of pineapple hard candy, taste of graham crackers, Belgian sugar, grassy bitterness, a little citrus. Medium body and carbonation. Excellent.

PROST KOLSCH 5/7/16

Another in the latest shipment from the beer club. We do not get this Colorado brewer's products in my state.

Poured from the 12 oz. bottle into a Unibroue pilsener glass.

a: Slightly cloudy gold with an even quarter inch thick white head which receded to patchy surface foam and spotty lacing.

s: Light fruit.

t: follows the nose over a medium biscuit malt base. Dry finish.

m: Medium, good body and carbonation tingle.

o; An exceptional representation of the style, easy drinking and refreshing. This brewer knows his German formats; his Weissbier (recently reviewed) is also very good.
