Hazy IPA with Fort George & Great Notion

DREAM TEAM HAZY IPA is a collaboration between Reuben’s Brews, Great Notion (Portland, OR), and Fort George (Astoria, OR.) This dream team first brewed together with the 2017 release of Fort George’s iconic 3-Way, a legendary release all three breweries continue to hear about from our supporters.

Dream Team packs grapefruit, passionfruit, white wine, and stone fruit flavor across a very soft, very light, and pillowy hazy IPA. The brew is engineered to drive up the aromatics at 7.2% ABV. Pilsner malt, plus flaked and malted oats, and flaked rice meet Cryo Simcoe®, Nelson Sauvin™, and Riwaka™ hops alongside Citra Incognito®.

Soft, pale yellow body, pineapple juice look; thick, frothy head, white and creamy. Citrus pith nose; light oat scent. Light to moderate taste; faint overall citrus; mild cereal grain flavor; yeasty; light bitterness, kind of Nelson Sauvin in character. Light body; mild coarseness; semi-dry feel overall.

A light, pleasant beer that drinks easily.

Pouring temperature: 44 °F; canning info: PKGD 03/02/22

done with fort george and great notion, a really nice hazy here, unique in terms of hop profile, fuller feeling but also super soft, and real hazy without being gross or sloppy. bright yellow in color, uniformly hazy, looks electric in the glass under an inch of white foam. there has to be some cryo hops in this, not sure if they do cryo southern hemisphere hops, but i am getting both the up front pungency and intensity of the cryo format, and the juicy tropical new zealand hop complexion, really appealing and super fresh, green melon, white grape, white peach, lemongrass, white tea, its both floral and fruity, meyer lemon maybe too, i get some nelson too, a gin note, really sexy on top of soft oaty base, almost creamy when i get to drinking this. wonderful hops all through this, start to finish, off dry with a little linger, oily and piney late and with temperature, more northwestern then, but earlier its all green gooseberry and cut flowers and sauv blanc and honeysuckle, just delicious. love the flavor and the texture equally, i wish all hazy stuff felt like this, sturdy and delicate at the same time. a coming together of some legendary operations, and its no surprise they nailed this. it should probably become a full time thing, its dynamite!

16oz can (no date. Shame Reuben's) poured into 16oz tulip. Poured a fully murky pale yellow color with almost 2 inches of white head that good retention and no lacing.

The aroma and taste were pretty much what would be expected from a murkster; no grain, generic frooty hops. The body was light and smooth, with a finish that was drier than is usual for the style. Drinkability was OK, no issues, but it was a bit of a boring beer to quaff.

Overall, another average-ish version of the style. Try it if you like them.

Pours a pale yellow with a heavy haze to the transparency. Head is two fingers of fluffy white foam. Aroma is lead by grassy and herbal hops with a hint of tropical fruits behind it. Unfortunately, a big gust of bubblegum sweeps in just behind those initial hops, adding an odd sweetness. Doughy, bready, biscuity malts land underneath the hops, and become more apparent as the hops fade. Flavor profile is tropical fruits, with mild grassy and herbal hops for depth. It leans mostly into tropical fruits. Later on, biscuity, bready malts show up alongside wheat for a pleasant call-n-response to the hop start. Make no mistake though, it's hop forward. Bubblegum shows up again as the hops and malts fade out. Mouth feel is medium-thin in consistency with a medium-soft effervescence. Not quite crisp, not quite soft. Overall, some great dynamics here. Hops are quality, and deliver in both the aroma and taste. The drawback is the Little League bubblegum note.

Served in a 15.5oz Spiegelau tulip from a 16oz can.

16 oz. can. Hazy pale orange. Smells of acidic fruits and light oniony notes. Tastes of sharp tropical fruits, white grape, herbals, with an acidic finish. Slight cracker malt and even a touch of bitterness. But mostly acidic. Medium body, not sweet. The lack of sweetness helps, but it's about as sharp as hazy IPAs get.

Very good update to this 2017 collaboration. Seems a bit more refined than the 3 way version. Another quality hazy that most fans should enjoy.

Pours a very light pale straw color with a thick head, good retention. Dominate aroma of pine, citrus and grapefruit. Lots going on in this one. Taste is piney hops, with a layer of grapefruit. Minimal dankness, medium dry, clean finish. An excellent collaboration with three top tier crafters.
