Pours nearly a layer of tan head over a pitch liquid that has dark brown edgings when held to light. Smells chocolate, burnt grains, worty, nutty, beefy. Pretzels, clean mild alcohol sting, malted chocolate shake. Tastes much the same. There is something not right about this beer. The burnt character is just too strong and very off putting. I dumped this one. Medium-thick in the mouth and mild carbonation.

I ama anew at drinking Porter's this is my third one so take this with a bit of salt but I was not at all impressed here. The finish disappeared immediately. The smell started out right but it never even started after that. better than a Miller Light but that is about I can say about this one....I will try and educate myself and try some more Porters but it was not as good as the other two I had in Seattle recently.

Dark tan head. Fades quickly. Pure black, dark as night. The way a porter should look! Lovely roasty aroma. Tastes of roasted sugars, faint hints of chocolate, pipe tobacco-like bitter finish. Hops well balanced. Goes in way too smooth; very enjoyable mouthfeel. Maybe a little too thin but certainly not watery.

Overall a great porter. But not quite as memorable as other Reuebens beers. Still very worthy of your dough and palate.

22 oz bottle shared during dessert at Thanksgiving. L: Very dark brown with good head retention, not overpowering. S: Dark roasted malt, hint of chocolate. T: Labeled as robust porter, and definitely fulfills that. Strong roasted, robust malt flavors. Only a hint of chocolate and bitterness very low. F: Medium, lighter bodied, just under 6% abv as well. O: Stoked my brother brought me a bottle of this to try from Seattle.

Solid porter with plenty of coffee and a sweet smoky tinge to it, dark chocolate comes out in the finish. Light on the malt - most of the character is coming from the roasting, not the malt itself. Very lightly hopped, more of a grassy or hay character than the typical PacNW beer's citrus or piney hops. Not much head at all (poured flat essentially), but still has a decent amount of carbonation so it is not cloying.

Poured into a Reuben's Brew snifter. Pours a very dark brown, appearing opaque black in the glass, with a thin light brown head that dissipates to a thin ring around the glass with light lacing. Mild aroma of sweet toasted malt, milk chocolate; lightly lactic. Flavor of toasted, lightly charred malt, cocoa, light coffee, flavor drops off to a drier, mild charred malt flavor with some light grassy hop bitterness. Medium bodied. A rather dry, charred malt porter instead of the sweeter mild stout of the aroma. The malt body is not quite as substantial as I would hope for the strong char component. I enjoyed this and liked the roastiness, but would have liked a bit more balance.

On tap at the brewery.

A: Chocolate brown with a tan one finger head that lingered. Thick lacing.

S: Roasted chocolate, coffee, and cocoa.

T: The char comes through, featuring chocolate, cocoa and a coffee bitterness on the finish that gives this one an English Brown Ale feel.

M: Medium with medium, dry carbonation.

O: I wasn't expecting so much coffee on the finish, but still a decent porter. Very affordable in a bomber.

Served On-Tap

A — Pours a deep brown color with a puffy mocha colored head that leaves behind nice consistent lacing.

S — Smells of nicely roasted chocolate malts, light cocoa and coffee notes, dry.

T — Tastes nice and dry, richly roasted chocolate malts and coffee tones, very nice.

M — Medium bodied, lightly crisp, clean and lingering finish.

O — Very nice porter from Reuben's not sure it deserves the "Robust" tag with its lowish ABV, still great nonetheless.

Bottle poured in a tulip. Pours brownish black with a short tan head. Some lacing remains in the glass. Nose is a light coffee roast. Taste brings out more of the coffee and a faint taste of cocoa. Mouthfeel is medium to light.

Poured from a torpedo into a pint. Roasty, toasty and creamy best describe this porter. There is a wonderful balance with coffee notes and a bit of chocolate with subtle hops. I enjoyed this porter and will buy again.

Appearance has a nice tan head sitting atop a dark rich ruby brown beer leaving nice lace. Smell of the roasted malt, coffee with a yeasty tang. Taste has the same sense as of the smell with a little dark chocolate thrown in. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. Overall a nice take on a robust porter.

Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass.

Appearance: extremely dark brown with no light let through at all. Head is a finger of frothy tan foam; quite attractive.

Smell: rich, roasty aroma with coffee and chocolate elements. There's also a pretty forward earthy, vegetal hop character which is surprisingly well-placed in this brew. Usually it's a distraction, but in this "robust" context it works for me.

Taste: creamy and a little bready; I really like the malt character here. Could they have thrown in a little rye? It would be within character for the brewer. Coffee flavors persist, as well as that vegetal character from the aroma (albeit a little subdued). I like it.

Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a good carbonation and a really nice creaminess. There's a real velvety smoothness here which I love.

Overall: a tasty and satisfying porter; definitely well-executed. Great stuff.

22oz bottle poured into a pair of tulips. 099 G 2103 2014 stamped near the bottom of the bottle. 11.03.14 stamped on the label. Don't know what they mean. But, I expect robust porters to age OK.

Pours black with a biggish light brown head. Lots of fine, slow active carbonation. Smell is dark musty fruit. Roasty, sweet.

Taste is roasty bitter with a little plummy/date flavor. Very classic porter flavor, and very tasty.

Mouthfeel is surprisingly thin and surprisingly gritty. Overall, very solid porter. I like it.

Had on tap at Reuben's. Review from notes.

A: Pours a deep brown color with an off-white head on top. Decent head retention with minimal lacing.

S: Nice mixture of coffee and chocolate with some hearty burnt malt and a bit of caramel.

T: More of a cocoa flavor than chocolate with more roasted/burnt malt. Thick caramel and a bit of pine on the finish.

M: Medium bodied, maybe a touch thin for a porter, but smooth.

O: A solid porter, nice flavor profile, deep roasted malt, borderline burnt.

5 oz sample poured at the brewery. Poured a deep jet black with a thick tan head that retains. Strong burnt and choclate malts smells permiate. Thick mouthfeel. Strong but balanced smells of chocolate, smoke and some piney hops. This is a great porter, comparible to Founders Porter and Deschutes Black Butte. Receommended.

22oz. bottle poured into tulip, bottle had been in my fridge ~6 mos. Poured dark brown/black with thin layer of tan head. Roasty coffee aroma. Taste is equally roasty with subtle chocolate notes. Nice medium mouth feel. Overall a fantastic beer, much like everything else they produce.

My first beer from this now-local brewery. Tasted 2 June 2015.

Pours opaque dark brown, nearly black, with only a bit of light passing through the edges. Two big fingers of medium tan head, great retention, lovely lacing.

Smell is everything a porter should be. Dark and rich. Coffee with a hint of sweetness. A bit of char. Complex and exactly what I'm looking for.

Taste is really good, though not on the level of the smell. Coffee again, a little bitter but smooth. Again a bit of charred wood. Could use the sweetness that's apparent in the smell, as it's a shade empty and sharp.

Feel is outstanding. Medium-bodied, leaning heavy, but with delightful buzzy carbonation, low-level but persistent, that continues to stir things all the way through. Fluffy in the finish.

This is a stellar porter, up there with my favorites (e.g. Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald). Taste is the low point, and it's not that low.
