T - Bitter pine, orange peel. Odd finish.

D - Good carbonation with a medium body.

O - Lots of bitter hops and lots of malts. Odd finish and bitter throughout.

On tap at Bailey's Upper Lip the other night.

The beer pours a copper amber color with good head retention and lacing. The rye really shows up big time on the nose, and it seemed to give added oomph to the considerable orange citrus and sweet malt I picked up. The flavor profile was most of the same, but the I thought the sweetness, coupled with the rye flavor, was a bit overdone. It really tended to dominate the bitterness in the finish of this beer. There was also some noticeable heat on the finish, which I thought was likely magnified by the sweet malt and rye in this beer. Mouthfeel was medium bodied to full, but with the alcohol on the finish marring this beer's drinkability.

Not a bad beer, but I wasn't so in love with it that I can ever see myself ordering this again any time soon.

Appearance: Arrives with the hazy copper liquid capped by an inch of foam; a few strands of lacing linger

Smell: Caramel and rye underpin the pine

Taste: Caramel is dominant, up front, with the piney hops and spicy rye tones developing through the middle; sticky through the finish with the malts challenging the hops through the finish

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation

Overall: Overly sticky, for my palate, though the hoppy bitterness combines nicely with the spicy rye flavors

Thanks to nate321 for hitting my joy-buzzer with this extra from a brewery that's new to me. 22 oz. bottle split with my wife.

Pour is a hazed & confused dark orange with carbonation appropriate to an adult beverage called 'beer'. Nose is heavy on the spicy rye with a side salad of fruits, loaded up with oranges & tangerines.

Reuben's Imperial Rye IPA is like a hook echo of the Road Warrior I've been slugging down the past few days. Just like RW this has a big, thick mouthfeel that's fairly rare on the rye side of things. Dragon-size bite of spicy rye, but then it veers off into a southern orchard, bringing the fruity nose of oranges, tangerines, & finishing up with a touch of pine cone bitterness. Alcohol is noticeable. Enjoying drinking this one.

Very good rye that peaks with the river delta thick mouthfeel. Very good.

Bottle (2013)

Thanks, libbey!

Hazed dark orange with a moderate-sized off-white head. Lots of sticky lacing left down the glass. Very pretty IPA.

Aroma of pine, citrus zest, and dank marijuana. There's a bit of a spicy, lemon note as well, especially when taking big inhalations.

Moderately bitter, sticky pine and marijuana flavors, along with lemon citrus zest accompanying hop notes. Very drinkable.

Medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation.

Excellent, and it paired fantasically well with a reuben from Tina's Deli.

22oz bottle served in curved pedestal glass. Beer pours brilliant orange in color and forms a more than healthy white head. Sniffing reveals bitter, grainy rye and a load of piny C-hops. Flavor reveals exactly the same, just as promised on the label. This is a PNW imperial rye IPA which executes what is rapidly becoming a new classic style, and one of my favorites. Respectably delivered, Reuben.

Note: My bottle was among the most sedimented commercially bottled beers I've seen in years. Pour carefully!

22oz bottle served in a large mug. I stopped pouring when I saw heavy sediment start coming out. 155 D-1 1703 is printed on the bottom, which is meaningless to me. Might be from the bottle manufacturer instead of the brewery. 07.07.16 is printed on the label.

Pours slightly hazy amber with tiny head and a surprisingly large amount of carbonation. Smell is nice spicy rye-ness with nice hoppy aromas. Honeysuckle, floral, and citrus rind. Some pine.

Taste is dominated by the piney bitterness for me, but with a nice rye accent. Surprisingly strong sweetness to balance the bitterness. Nice and enjoyable.

Mouthfeel is thick and chewy, but a little flat. Overall, nice beer.
