A - Nearly black with a tan, moon surface head that hung around

S - Robust aroma like no other stout I've consumed; very roasty with hints of coffee

T - Tastes lighter at first than the aroma leads on, but very roasty, oaty, bitter; coffee beans; not sweet or chocolatey but bitter and marked by an undefinable, funky taste that leaves an unwanted question mark on my palate

M - Light for a stout, carbonated, bitter and very dry

D - Furtive taste throws off the other traditional dry stout flavors and does not invite enthusiastic sipping

First had: on nitro at their brewpub

Poured an opaque black with an off-white, slightly tanned head, creamy from the nitro as expected. Big roasty aroma, dark chocolate and almost-burnt coffee. Dark, roasty malt flavor, rich with grains, earthy, with some coffee notes. A little on the thin side, on the light side of full-bodied, but still quite good and drinkable.

A - Dark brown up close, black when viewing afar. Perfect

S - Malty, not overly so; hints of chocolate.

T - Straight down the line stout. Great balance. It loses its heat at room temp (I recommend drinking it at this temp).

M - Slight grittiness, not enough to downgrade it though.

O - An above average stout! Seems to have more kick ABV wise than advertised. Nice.

Black body, tan head.

Dark chocolate, licorice, and french roast has the wife salivating.

Typical irish stout flavors: unsweetened chocolate, toffee, roasted barley. And now for the unique flavor: marshmellow. Not in a sweet way, but it is certainly there. The finish is bittersweet then quite dry.

Yep, that's how irish stouts taste. Not a style that creates much buzz or excitment, nor does this beer. But it is quietly good and I am thinking of ordering a pitcher on a 96 degree day, so make of that what you will.

ok, an odd review. This beer is very smooth and creamy which made it easier to drink, very easy. Yet the stout characteristics just weren't very strong. A few hints of chocolate and coffee, some prune, but mostly nothing significant. Black in color, slightly reddish. I downed a pint fairly quickly.

On-tap at brewery

There's a dark look to this beer, somehow like oil; there's a nice light-looking tan head as contrast; moderate lacing; quarter-inch head; heavy malt nose; the beer is smooth poured via nitro; tastes very roasted; good light stout flavor; decent sessionable stout.

Good contrast in color with an off white head on near black. Head was very creamy and caused nice lacing.

Burnt grain malt with English hops.

Again, lots of burnt 2 row malts and golding hops.

Very light and crisp body. Very smooth carbonation, nitro.

Good brew to wash down some grub.

On nitro at Vine St. Pub. Dark black but still brown, don't ask. It smells slightly like a stout but it is faint. The taste is subtle and hard to discern but I think an Irish stout is hiding in there. The nitro made for a smooth mouth-feel and as such this was easy to down. Overall, eh.

On nitro at Southern Sun. Served in a shaker pint glass.

Old School is pitch black with a dense cream head that retains well. Good lace is left behind.

Fairly standard Irish stout fare here. Roasted grains and coffee dominate. Bitterness is light and burnt. A light body that's not quite soft enough rounds things out. Ov
erall, a decent Irish stout.

a great stout, classic in so many ways. rich and creamy on the pour, so dark, so splendid, a milky offering of dark origins. cocoa black and patient head, ring lacing as she drinks. nose of chocolate malt, acidic coffee, and dark roast as close to burnt as you can be. the flavor is the same, roasty and bitter, rich and decadent too though. soft for a stout like this, filling and sturdy, I like the feel. priced fair too at vine street, but overall a beer that is above average but not epic. its smooth and soft and easy, but its also a little lazy. good, filling, wintery, but not as dry as the true irish stouts. the nitro tap flatters it out, without that its just good. love the chalky texture, and the warming properties.
