Pale Ryder - Rye Style Pale AlePale Ryder - Rye Style Pale Ale
Notes: What makes our Rye Style Pale Ale memorable is it’s incredibly unique aroma. It delivers citrus, apricot, mango, ginger, and lemongrass, created from our one-of-kind blend of Sorachi Ace, Centennial, Cascade, and Chinook, followed with a beautiful balance of bitterness and malt character. We brewed long and hard to deliver something special among a sea of mediocre pales.

Sometimes called simply "Pale Ale".

On tap at the brewery – Paso Robles, CA
4oz taster – 08/18/2014

A: Pale Ryder shows off a lovely butterscotch hue with some partial hop haze across the body. A thin layer of khaki cream settles down to a swirl with some beaded stick that stays behind after every sip.

S: A fruity hop bouquet of sweet mangoes, peach, kiwi and lemon-lime emits from the glass. Underneath lies some peppery Rye spices and a touch of bready cracker. This is another nice exhibit of hop aromas from BarrelHouse. Really enjoying the uniqueness of this one with some of that Rye making its way through.

T: Punchy with fruit hops kiwi, mango, and lemon-lime stand out. Some nice floral like ness to it as well. Malt is Rye induced peppered cracker and sits backseat to that Good touch of puckering bitterness and no alcohol coming through in the flavor. Lightly resinous. Another great hoppy brew from these guys.

M: Light to moderately light body with a nice resinous pucker that drives into a dry and crisp finish. Pretty clean overall with some nice lingering hops.

D: Pale Ryder offers some unique hop flavors and it all seems to work really well with that touch of peppery Rye malt. Would gladly have this one again as well. In fact I grabbed a few bottles on my way out. Great visit all around and a real nice hang this place is.

Appearance: A medium copper color, very clear. Nice lacing and retention.

Nose: Hops, lemongrass, and some floral notes.

Taste: A bit of citrus and hop intensity at first. Malt is very well balanced. Not thin, very well balanced.

Notes: One of the best pale ales I've ever had.

Right off the bat you will catch a plethora of fruity hoppy aromas drawing your senses into the center of Flavortown ! This is my favorite BH Brew so far out of the 5 flagship brews offered.

The most difficult thing about most pale ale's to master in my opinion is balance. This brew has the perfect balance of malt and hops that produce an amazing mouth feel and finish.

OUTSTANDING

This beer is sensational. The Sorachi Ace hops scream through the strong malt backbone. This is not a good Pale Ale. But It's an excellent Session IPA.

If I were stuck on a desert island and I was only allowed to bring one beer from the BarrelHouse with me, it would definitely be the Pale Ryder. I might also take some of the Cattaneo Bros jerky they sold there as well as some of the free pretzel's and mustard. Super Clutch

Beautiful dark amber color in the tall Petrus goblet with ample foam and plenty of lacing. Utterly drinkable but with plenty of body. Some tangy aromatics and a whiff of hops.

This has that perfumey flavor that can get out of control but here it adds some great aromatics and goes nicely with the touch of sweetness. Overall this is clean and crisp with just the right bitter edge at the finish. I like the judicious use of hops. Some resiny notes that don't mask the grainy rye notes. There is a tang to this but it's not too sharp-edged, and the malt adds to the mellowness.

Another excellent entry in the rye category. This is getting to be one of my favorite flavors for beer. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Bottlecraft in San Diego.

Brilliant, medium copper color, a bit dark for Pale Ale I must say. Thin head with little retention. The aroma is packed with hoppiness, and it brings a nice array of character. Earthy lemongrass, spicy, weedy, floral notes and stone fruits. The malt shows a little sweetness as well but mostly allows the hops to shine. Very enticing.

There is even more one-sided hop dominance in the taste, with lemon and other citrus coming through. The hop intensity is very sharp up front, and the finish seems to fade with only a soft, grassy bitterness at first. Malt balance is mild, with only a dry, crackery sweetness. Goes down very easy I must say. The bitterness definitely builds though, after a few sips. Excellent mouthfeel. Clean and crisp, but not thin. Medium carbonation that holds up nicely.

This is a damn fine Pale Ale with an excellent hop bouquet. I believe the Sorachi Ace hops really add another dimension for the style. The clean malt flavor really showcases the hops and makes it easy to quaff. This is my second offering from this brewery and they are definitely impressing.
