Another great beer from Barrelhouse Brewing. Their iteration of IPA is very good. This is more of a west coast style, that I really don't see any haziness with. I had this on tap at the Taproom in Visalia. Enjoyed it so much, I took home a sixer! Very good nose for an IPA...tropical notes from the Mosaic hops. Taste follows somewhat...the only thing that I didn't care for is the extra bitter bite at the end.

And excellent fresh hazy IPA with juicy tropical as well as piney grapefruit hops, nice balancing malt backbone, bright bitter finish but does not linger, medium body and a bit creamy.

Bottled 4/17/18, consumed 5/23/18

L: Slightly hazy golden honey with a small head that left a little bit of spotty lacing.

S: Tropical and stonefruit notes, piney hops, and a little bit of bready malt.

T: Great, full mango and other tropical fruit flavors with danky, piney hops. Unique, very nice.

F: Medium, very solid bitterness, great carbonation, clean finish.

O: Really enjoyed this West Coast IPA, solid and danky but with very bright and expressive fruit notes. I've really liked all the Barrelhouse brews I've tried so far and will continue to pick 'em up.

L: A quite-hazy golden-orange, with average level of off-white head, slightly-above-average lacing, with minimal rising carbonation bubbles visible.
S: Incredibly strong tropical fruit flavors, most notably papaya and mango. A deeper sniff reveals subtle pine and resinous hop aromas.
T: very dank resinous hops dominate. the tropical fruit is still present but is far more subdued than in the smell. moderately sweet.
F: medium-full body. average amount of quite-above-average intensity carbonation creating a very crisp bite, but with some minor stickiness in the back half of the sip and aftertaste

I haven't had this beer since the recipe was tweaked, and my god how good it is! Unfiltered, it still pours a clear gold to light amber with a nice foamy white head that stays at the surface and laces well. Smell is intense of mango, pine, and simple crackery malt. Taste follows, and the amount of mango extracted from the hops would lead you to believe real mangos were used. Nice medium carbonation, dry but not too dry of a finish, and good piney bitterness make this an exceptionally delicious and drinkable IPA overall. Cheers!

Poured from a bomber into a Dogfish tulip Thanks to DEK196 for including this in a trade!

L: Clear medium golden pour. 2-3 fingers of foamy white head. Tons of sticky lacing.

S: Pine and citrus... lots of hops going on here.

T/F: Rich malts and grains to start set the stage for a great West Coast hopshot. Lots of resiny pine, but also grapefruit and citrus. A bit of pineapple and pepper. Medium body and great carbonation. Resinous and sticky. A bit of pine in the aftertaste.

O: A great west coast IPA, and one I wish I could pick up around town. Great flavor and hop profile. It has some oomph but is very drinkable. Really super beer.

Bottle poured into a BarrelHouse Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours golden yellow amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a firm layer and leaves plenty of thick lacing.

S: Zesty citrus jumps out at you, followed by tropical fruit, some dank herbal notes, pine, biscuity malt, and a touch of caramel sweetness.

T: Big tropical fruit and citrus, passion fruit, pineapple, mango, lemon, grapefruit, dank herbal notes, pine, biscuity malt, and a little caramel sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, quite smooth and dangerously drinkable.

O: I last had this beer a few years ago before I joined Ba. I didn't remember a ton of specifics about it, remembered that I couldn't stop smelling my glass. I gotta say, the aroma is still fantastic and the taste backs it up. Really nice IPA.

Excellent. Cut to the chase, there is no strange after taste. It is not the same ol' SD clean IPA with danky hops. It is smooth and delicious.

It has something that no other IPA I have ever tried has - a buttery finish.... I have drank it for at least the last couple of years since the brewery is near by but I have now realized it may be the best on the central coast.

Palate Contaminants: none

Appearance is a slightly opaque gold. The head doesn't stick around, but the lacing is nice.

Smell is more like a New England IPA. There's peach, pear, and a little white grapefruit, but it's only slightly sweet.

Overall taste is somewhere between the New England and West Coast styles. The peach flavor is less, and the grapefruit strengthens. Other stone fruit (I'll go with mostly apricot) are there, too. I get a little pepper, and it's also firing off the salty sense taste buds. And there's some peat in there, as well.

Feel is moderate to thin, but the taste remains solid.

Poured from a bomber into a shaker pint, the beer is a slightly hazed, honey-gold coloring, with a slow roll of carbonation bubbling feeding a low profile, clingy, white head. Aromas of rich mango sweetness, dried grass, herbal spice, tart grapefruit, and rich tropical fruits. Flavors are spiced and sticky forward, peppery notes blending with dank pine pitch and resinous characteristics. Solid blend of tropical fruits follow, heavy on the mango, pineapple, and grapefruit. Solid candy sweet backbone to support all of the dank, bitter, and fruity characteristics. The body is bold and slick, with a bitter, dry edge. Solid fruit salad and wet grass aftertaste, lingering on a little bit before the dry, bitter finish and slight acidity clean the palate up. Good beer. Solid IPA.

Poured into a Stone Brewery flute. Pours a hazy medium golden amber with a one finger white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of citrus, lightly dank hops, bready malt with a hint of caramel. Flavor is citrus and piney hops, mild caramel malt, orange citrus, orange and grapefruit rind, hints of light stone and tropical fruit. Nice resinous citrus hop finish. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A very nice West Coast IPA with a flavorful hop complement and good, but non-intrusive malt body. This is what I hope for in an IPA. Enjoyable and tasty hops.

A: Slightly cloudy golden with gorgeous tight, foamy head.
S: Sweet stone fruit (jujubes, apricots), a little honey
T: More subdued fruit than the nose; the malt still has a honey flavor and the hop bitterness is balanced nicely. Not scrapey; just a hint of resin. Some nice earthy flavor underneath the sweet fruit.
M: Very nice. Just a twinge of bitter on the sides of the tongue and the carbonation is super fine, giving it a silky texture.
O: This beer gets better as you drink it. Initially the taste didn't bowl me over but I'm loving it more and more. Nothing over the top; a very well-done IPA.

L: clear but muted orange/yellow. Decent fluffy white head.
S: skunky, lots of pine, stale grass, a little onion, hint of pineapple
T: big hit of that skunkiness, pine, grassy, fruitiness struggles to break through the initial tastes
M: slightly below average carbonation, slightly heavier feel
O: meh, not one i would get again or seek out...

Poured from bomber into pint glass

Big head, several fingers high, with excellent retention. A little hazy, appears unfiltered.

Powerful nose...lots of pine, some fragrant citrus zest as well. Smells a little sweet too...maybe some tropical fruit.

My first few sips were heavy on pine. More fruit came out as it warmed up. Almost a metallic bitterness in the finish (not unpleasant though)

Overall a very well balanced, drinkable IPA. Excellent representation of a "west coast" IPA. The nose is what I'll really remember about this beer.

Have only seen bombers....would buy again, but hope to see sixers.

This is excellent! One of my favorite IPA's. Very rich in smell and taste. Very nice experience. First had one of these in Morro Bay and was hooked. My local liquor store now carry's these and i buy one every time. The price point isn't bad at 6.50. Worth every penny. You'll know its worth it after drinking one of these. So well balanced and a head that will out last time. Very well crafted and the love shows. Smells and taste are so addicting. Lots of deep tones yet has a very nice sweet malt taste. Just about perfect.

Excellent Brew!

Delicious IPA. Notes of fruit and resinous pine. Smells a lot like very fresh, good-quality marijuana. Just enough sweetness to balance out the hops. Very well done!

- 4oz. pour off tap at the tasting room (Paso Robles, CA) into flight glass on 5-Sep-15

A really solid example of the West Coast style. Much better than FW's Union Jack. The nose is slightly better than the taste in my opinion.

(22oz, Long Beach) Nice fruity nose that starts peachy/apricot and a bit citrusy the more you smell. First sip is right on the money. Earthy/ hemp comes through after a couple more sips. Just the right bitterness. Perfectly balanced the way I like them. This IPA is a serious contender for my beer of the year. Excellent introduction to this brewer.

Decent IPA with a good balance of hops and malt. Slight metallic smell, though. Good carbonated head with slight citrus (mango?) aftertaste. Definitely worth trying.

Had a bomber in Carpinteria, CA. It definitely has the mango aroma. Not as much mango in mouthfeel but a solid IPA nonetheless. I could do without the debris and floaties in the bottle. I imagine this is much better on tap. All in all, another quality IPA from the central coast of Cali!

Bought a bomber while in the Central Coast. Nice malt hop balance. Not a hop bomb or pine tree stuffed in a beer. I really it enjoyed it. It reminded me of a hoppier Gigantic IPA. I'd like to check out their other beers as well.

On tap at the brewery – Paso Robles, CA
4oz taster – 08/18/2014

A: Pours a darker caramel amber body with a well conditioned clarity about it. Nice fatty lip of khaki suds covering for a few minutes until finally subsiding. Nice tracked lacing intervals as I make my way through the drink.

S: Weedy and dank herbal spice rolls over grapefruit, pine, melon, and some tropical flowers. There is a light undercurrent of caramel malt sweetness to this but man the hops are just killer. Super dankalicous and done proper.

T: Resinous dank pine with hibiscus flower meets juicy ripe grapefruit and bursts of tropical mango. A really great hop profile with a moderate to upper level of bitterness. Malt is there if not nearly void save some sugary caramel bits incorporated to help balance. Finish is dry with a long lasting linger and alcohol kept well disguised. Very good and just to my liking.

M: Moderate to lighter body with a touch of constricting bitterness on the palate. Dry and resinous finish with lots of residual hop oils and malt sugars.

D: Incredibly dank, fresh, and fruity this is just everything I look for in an IPA. Malt is negligible but at the same time just enough to pull it all together. Well done BarrelHouse. I will be back for more.
