750mL bottle purchased at The Hourglass Brewery (Longwood, FL). 20.00. Bottled 05/2015. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.
Pours a deep yet brilliant crimson with about two fingers manilla head. The bubbles are gone quickly, leaving a thin, lasting collar. A couple lingering islands of haze but nothing remains as lace.
Sweet, inviting aromas of vanilla, cherries, bourbon, dark fruit and caramel. Quite nice.
Taste picks up on all the delightful promises of the nose and then some. Bright, tart cherries, soft but flavorful bourbon, vanilla, toffee, oak, vaguely herbal bitterness, apple skins, semi fruity yeast, mild spice and a healthy nip of booze. Outstanding balance of the base quad, barrel aging and cherries. Delicious.
Full body, somewhere between creamy and oily with soft but appropriate carbonation. Cherries, bourbon, caramel and dark fruit keep the decadence going in the aftertaste.
At risk of seeming redundant, The Hourglass Brewery's Schizandra is utterly delicious. Whether or not the base quad is any good (and nothing leads me to believe that it is not) the deft addition of cherries and barrel aging take this to a special place. Super glad that I just happened to be visiting Orlando soon after their first bottle release and was able to pick up a few.

Hourglass' first bottle release - glad I grabbed a bottle. tons of cherry and bourbon that plays off the base quad well. A rich and complex beer that stands up to BBQ and other beers like it.

Had at a share over the weekend. So glad I got to try one of these as I wasn't able to grab a bottle of it when it was released. Very tasty Quad and the cherry is excellent and the bourbon played into it perfectly.

This is the first barrel aged bottle release for Hourglass and it is well worth the wait. The nose and taste features dark fruits and bourbon soaked cherries. Well done!
