Golden amber color with a sticky white head in the tall Saxo tulip. Fruity aroma with a whiff of the barnyard. Pleasantly spritzy on the tongue.

The Belgian yeasty flavor hits you right away. This has that classic combination of sweet with a dry undertone rising quickly to the finish. Sharp, strong flavored, and malty. Tastes of canned peaches with a shot of bourbon. Some pleasant maltiness give this a substantial mouthfeel. The yeasty bitterness is just right and doesn't overwhelm the fruity tang.

This is a better than average Belgian Golden Ale. A nice balance of flavors, yeast and alcoholic fire. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Hollingshead's Delicatessen in Orange.

On-tap at the source and served in a plastic cup. On to the beer:

Color looks like the yellow orange pulled out of a crayon box. Head retention on top is acceptable. The aroma has a big kiss of apricot, but touched with a little alcohol and vague yeast. For a strong ale, the character and flavor arrive on the mellower side. It's fruity forward, with the apricot from the nose finding its way in the taste. Some sugar sweetness adds a different kind of sweetness to the beer. A kiss of booze keeps the beer from being too sweet. Vague milled cereals are found too. Medium bodied, but on the way to becoming medium full.

Belgian styles reproduced in the US have a mixed record. I think Ritual has done well with Hellion, not to mention their other Belgian styled beer Wit's End.

A Belgian golden ale. Straw yellow in color with a cream head which was nice and full. Nice lacing an the glass. Smells of fruity spices. Mouth feel is dry and smooth. Lots of spice and fruit flavors biscuit malts and a dry hoppy after taste. Very drinkable, you don't even notice the 8.5 % ABV.

On tap at Ritual Brewing Company in Redlands, CA.

Pours a hazy yellow-orange with a foamy white head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, honey, fruit, and alcohol. Taste is much the same with honey and spice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but it's fairly strong and boozy.
