Notes / Commercial Description:
For our first release we present our take on a Kolsch, a traditional German beer from Cologne, Germany. Built from the ground up with the best North American malted barley and wheat, combined with a touch of German hops, this beer has a slightly citrusy and sweet malty character with only a hint of bitterness. Our special Belgian yeast imparts a signature fruit and floral aroma, making it a refreshing beer for any occasion.

Just a touch too sweet to be fully refreshing and the sweetness wares on you as you progress throuh the beer. Tingle to the mouthfeel which is unique. Some citrus fruit tang but it gets overbearing along with the sweetness. Worth trying and can see folks liking this more than me if they aren't put off by sweeter offerings.

Gold with a sheepish head that disappears quickly. Smells super spicy with some caramel undertones. Tastes like sweet caramel malt and bruised apple with a very dry, very spicy finish. Not sure where a belgian kolsch ends and a belgian pale begins but I see it as purely the latter.

On-tap 11/23/2014 at Pour Farm in New Bedford, MA, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a thin white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains grain, light caramelized malts and some hops.

T: The taste starts out with a big malt sweetness that is followed by a hearty breadiness. The hops presence is mild even for the style but still provides a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and a little crisp, medium body overall but on the heavy side for the style, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, more filling than most other beers in the style, mild kick, decent representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while.

Interesting new brewery, first from them hope to try more.
Tap at rail trail

Very little head fades quickly, murky solid color carrot orange color.

Nose is interesting, some Belgiany notes, earthy funky notes, some tart citrus, orange lemon like, light wheat and light malt, hint yeasty, more wheat, little banana and clove.

Taste is interesting too, lots of wheat and toasty characters, grainy little bread dough, cracked straw wheat, lots of wheat. Then fruity, fruity esters from an interesting Belgian yeast character, juicy Clementine or orange like, orange cream wheat, tart lemon rind, mild phenol spices, with more banana close esters, very hefe like, and a touch yeasty. Finish mild bitterness, mild bubblegum esters, bit fruity orange cream and wheat lingering.

Mouth is med bod, little creamy wheat and decent carb.

Overall it's a nice beer but it's a hefe not a kolsch at all. If this was called a hefe then I would be quite nice, but trying to be a Kolsch it is not even close.

Nearly no head and it settles to no bubbles and therefore no head. The liquid is light amber/dark gold. Low haze.

Lightly smokey on the nose. I don't detect any of the other typical smells. Think distant campfire.

This sits on the tongue lightly with a strong effervescence. Good body matches the high level of bubbles. The flavor comes through on the swallow and it reminds me of a homebrew, meaning lots of yeast (Belgian?) and slightly soured cream. The aftertaste is semisweet and semi sour. Oddly, it finishes flat to me.

A - Arrived in something like a pint glass. No head, no lacing. The beer is something of a darkened orange straw color. Very hazy.

S - Light waft of banana/spice aroma. Pleasant.

T - Mostly follows the nose, but stronger flavor. Mostly dominated by the clove/spice character of the taste. Mostly yeast character, low bitterness. Slightly dry finish.

M - Not impressive. This beer is pretty thin. Not too much supporting carbonation. The slightly dry finish is nice, there is very little cling to this beer, no lingering aftertaste.

O - First of all, apparently I need to refresh my style guidelines, because this tasted absolutely nothing like any Kolsch that I have ever tried before. I hadn't heard of it before ordering, and I thought it was some new brewery's clumsy take on a saison or even a couple German Hefes that I've tried. Regardless of the style, I found very little going on here. Not bad, but not recommended.
