Pours a nice rich black colour. Head was a dark tan, finger, left frothy lacing in it's wake. The aroma is quite roasty, with some chocolate and espresso notes, and a tinge of vanilla. Some sweetness hints at hazelnuts, but it's hard to discern. The taste is also quite roasty, with a nice chocolate bit to it, a sweet nuttiness (though it's not what I'm used to with hazelnut). It finishes with a bit of a floral hop bitterness. The feel is great: creamy, rich, medium bodied, good supple carbonation level.

The hazelnut strikes out in a lot of ways with this, in my opinion, but that really doesn't change the fact that it's a pretty damn tasty American Porter.

Aroma is overly sweet and a bit cloying, much more so than the beer tastes. Strong hazelnut flavor is nice and blends well with the usual mocha flavors of a porter. A bit of a light mouthfeel for a porter.

Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass.

Appearance: nearly black with plenty of haze and brown around the edges. Head is a finger of frothy dark-tan foam with OK retention. Nice-looking.

Smell: roasty porter and sweet hazelnut elements combine with a bizarre acridity. It's not super strong, but it's enough to throw me off a little.

Taste: I think the hazelnuts are adding more astringency and bitterness than they are hazelnut flavor -- at least, the hazelnut we all know from Coffee Mate and Frangelico. There's definitely a greener, bitier and (probably) more natural element here. Sadly, it is not my favorite thing; this otherwise competent porter is held back.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a very well-integrated carbonation and a wonderful, dazzlingly creamy texture. One of the best out there!

Overall: a weird beer. Points for creativity, but it's a little bit of a challenging beer to drink.

Thanks to VoodooImpStout for sharing this one at mhksuccess' tasting.

Pours an opaque dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt and some sour and tart fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with a nutty flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a higher level of carbonation with a crisp and prickly mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with an obvious infection issue but it's actually pretty good this way.
