White Russian Imperial Stout - We brewed this thick and luscious imperial stout using only the first runnings from a mash maxing grain bill and conditioned on a bowling bags worth of cocoa nibs, Madagascar Vanilla, Cold Brewed Coffee and Milk Sugar. Just like mixing the perfect cocktail, this White Russian inspired brew is far out!

A: Black with a 1/2" tan foamy head and light lacing that fades pretty fast.
N: Big chocolate notes, burnt sugar, some vanilla, caramel, and coffee.
T: Awesome black coffee hit with chocolate, some light vanilla and a great burnt sugar/caramel taste.
M: Medium and smooth, low ABV bite.
O: I am blown away how great this way, would drink these anytime. Great beer!

DATE: October 17, 2018... OCCASION: the Cavs 2018 season begins with a whole lot of uncertainty and no LeBron... GLASSWARE: Duvel tulip... figured this would be a good bottle to uncap, considering the Cavs unleash the Young Bull tonight in Toronto... pours a vibrant, thick, jet black body replete with a three-finger brown head--the opposite look of a white Russian... aroma is rife with sweet cocoa, chalky vanilla, earthy hops, leather, and creme brulee.... the mouthfeel is chalky, briny, thick, caffeinated, dry, and creamy for much of its duration... its alcohol is masked by its makeup, though that breath is stoked by the cold brew... the vanilla and tootsie roll are prominent, while its fruitiness accompanies the finish... the sugars drive this to a dessert vibe, sweet and thick... plum and pudding also are evoked... this isn't as massive or savory as the barrel-aged may be, it goes down with a relaxed fit unexpected from a beer with a 10.5% ABV... a solid "big" beer that flirts with its bomber vessel... warming, rewarding and ultimately a quality drink for a season that may not quite be...

Got in a BIF from MacMalt. 750 ml bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours dense opaque dark/brown black color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing cling on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla frosting, whipped cream, nutty coffee, toffee, marshmallow, fudge, cake batter, and toasted dark/brown bread; with light notes of molasses, smoke, dark fruit, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, vanilla, cocoa, lactose, and light-moderate coffee notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla frosting, whipped cream, nutty coffee, toffee, marshmallow, fudge, cake batter, and toasted dark/brown bread; with light notes of molasses, smoke, dark fruit, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very mild herbal/roast bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla frosting, whipped cream, nutty coffee, toffee, marshmallow, fudge, cake batter, toasted dark/brown bread, light molasses/smoke, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, vanilla, cocoa, lactose, and light-moderate coffee flavors; with a solid roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/slick, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Mildly increasing warmth of 10.5%. Overall this is a fantastic imperial milk/dessert stout! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, vanilla, cocoa, lactose, and light-moderate coffee flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV. Never overly sweet despite low bitterness. Extremely rich and complex; with balanced malts, cocoa, vanilla, and lactose. Not a ton of coffee, but solid presence. A highly enjoyable offering.

Poured from 750 ML bottle into Bolero Snort all-purpose glass. It pours jet black with more than a finger of creamy, mocha-colored head and lacing. The nose features roasted malt, chocolate, freshly brewed coffee, nuts, and faint dark fruit. The taste is a little lighter and sweeter than I anticipated and the first thing I notice is vanilla and lactose, along with fresh coffee and cocoa. There is also discernible black cherry. It finishes with a slightly bitter, dry nutty flavor. In fact, it features all the classic RIS flavors and they compliment each other nicely. This stout is medium-bodied and not particularly chewy, with low carbonation, and it really doesn't drink like 10.5% Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised. Russian Imperial Stout is my favorite style of beer and Bolero Snort is better known for its IPA's but this is quite good. It features all of the tastes I expect and it's an easy drinker.
