Pours a deep brown with red highlights and fair amount of off white head and mild effervescence. Smells strongly of sweet milk chocolate, caramel, butterscotch and toasted malts. Tastes sweet, salty caramel and chocolate forward with an earthy hoppy bitter twang at midnote with a bit of bite at the end with a slightly cloying but pleasant finish. Mouthfeel is lighter than medium, with pleasant amount of carbonation preventing it from becoming syrupy. Gains complexity as it warms and better balanced at slightly warmer temperatures (as stated in previous reviews).

Overall, I was thoroughly impressed by this beer – at first I thought it was a novelty – but I would definitely get this again and have as an aperitif/desert beer and I look forward to trying their other offerings

Now the porter is a really good beer with which to observe the changes that happen in beer as it warms. I suggest serving them at cellar not refrigerator temperature and I hope my review will tell you why. It's best to sip it and let it warm even more.

Pours dark brown and while it does appear to be a bit muddy at first as you start to drink and look straight down into the glass you can see that it's pretty clear. Thin tan head that fell fast and not too much lacing.

Right out of the refrigerator I smell caramel, sugar, butterscotch and a scent like cheap candy corn. Twiggy woody hops and sweet chocolate. In the tasting straight from the fridge it is sugary, sweet, not complex and tastes a lot like butterscotch. The hop herbal seems to clash with the rest of the beer and the finish is cloying.

After it reaches cellar temp. Nose is earthy roasted malt, caramel and bitter chocolate. The hops stayed the same. Woody, twiggy and a touch of herbal. A lovely and light vanilla. Malt is very full on the nose . This beer does actually smell like a hand wrapped chocolate caramel and it was made in collaboration with Hedonist Artisan Chocolates in Rochester NY.

After it warms to cellar temperature the taste is luscious and full. Strong caramel that is not too stiff or heavy. Roasty malt a touch of burnt sugar. No alcohol on the palate. Bitter chocolate wrapped around a salted caramel. I have no earthly clue how they got it to taste like that but it does. A deceptively light mouthfeel as though this piece of chocolate candy has melted on your tongue but with a tickle from bubbles it is not heavy at all in the swallow. That woody herbal hop is integral to the taste and only by comparing how it stood out at first and now seems to have blended in will you notice what a good choice of hop it was for this beer. Slight bitterness as it accumulates on the palate with each sip to reveal all that silken and smooth flavor. There is a slight moment of residual sugar in the finish but that is far from what it was ice cold.

This is my first offering from the Genesee Brewhouse Collection and it's everything people have said it is. Excellent!

Well done Porter to a point. Tastes exactly like it says, a salted caramel chocolate porter but no mouthfeel, for me a deal beaker. I feel lagers and the like should taste like pretzels and darker beers should be rich and thick- which this is not.

Pours a dark brown, with thin tan head. Aroma is of caramel, and dark chocolate. The body is medium with little carbonation. Taste is milky with caramel, and creamy chocolate. Hints of salt lightly come through especially in the finish. This is a must try!

A surprisingly superior beer from Genesee! The caramel smell is delicious. The taste is just as good. Very smooth. Will have to look in to more Genesee Brew House beers.

Pours a rich black with a reddish brown hue where the lights shines through at the lip. The aroma is sweet and chocolately, and the taste is a pleasing smooth mix of chocolate and caramel. Not too sweet, and actually finishes a bit dry. Beautiful beer, the best Genesee beer I've sampled.

I'm not sure the scores below reflect the verbiage that accompany. So I may be a little high. But the suggestion of drinking it close to room temperature is right on. And enjoying it after dinner is probably the best time to have it. I do agree with the reviews below, just not with the ratings.

I don't understand the numbers thing or have the experience or jargon to fill out the other areas. This is my impression: cold - taste is weak; cool - taste is really, really good and balanced; almost room temperature and above - loses most of its character and is bitter. It is a tiny bit on the thin side.

On tap at The Half Pint Pub in Rochester, NY. A collaboration with Hedonist Artisan Chocolates.

Pours a dark black, with a one inch foamy, creamy head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells of rich dark chocolate, sweet caramel, roasted malt, and some caramelized sugar.

This smells a lot sweeter than it tastes, which is nice. There's a ton of great chocolate flavor- Hedonist makes great chocolate, so it makes sense. It's dark and bitter, with some vanilla sweetness, and some caramel, which luckily doesn't get overwhelming. It's just merely whelming. There's a good amount of roasted malt, anchoring the sweetness down.

This is medium bodied, I wish it was slightly thicker, but it is only 6.5%, so that makes sense. It's got a creamy mouthfeel, and a low-to-medium level of carbonation.

I was really impressed with this one- the Genesee Brewhouse really does put out some good stuff.

Rated high, because well, it is what it says it is. Smell is on point, taste is on point. It's a porter, so color is what it is. Body is the only downside of this, but I've had porters with less body. I hate to say...."but it's a Genesee", but this is good, real good. Well done pride of Rochester.

Wow. You'd better like caramel and butterscotch when you buy this, because the aroma and the taste are strong of both. A couple sips are enough to coat your mouth with sweet stickiness. Appropriate carbonation resides after each sip. An amazing dessert beer for sure.

Look - Jet black. One finger tan/mocha head. Looks nice in the glass
Smell - Explodes w/ salted caramel. Totally dominates the nose. You get a little bit of chocolate and some vanilla as well. Smells great
Taste - Follows the nose. Tons of caramel and vanilla sweetness. Roasted malts, dark chocolate, some coffee. This is a VERY sweet beer. Almost hard to finish, in fact, it gets even sweeter as it warms.
Feel - Decent but I was hoping for a chewier/creamier mouthfeel.

Overall - If you are looking for an extremely sweet dessert beer, pick this one up. For me, it was tough to finish.
