Notes:
This ale is an exploration in all directions. The flavors steer towards red licorice, oak, vanilla, and cherry notes derived from the barrel that it was aged in over the last year. Fasten up and enjoy the trip.

A: The beer is very hazy brown in color - too hazy to see if there is any visible carbonation. It poured with a short white head that left large wisps of bubbles on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of oaky vanilla are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of oaky vanilla from the bourbon along with hints of dark fruits.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. There is some warming from the alcohol in the finish.
O: The bourbon barrel aging lends some complexity to this barleywine and also helps to "soften" things up a bit. While pleasant to sip, it isn't overly difficult to drink because it does a good job at hiding a good portion of the alcohol from the taste.

Look: Dark chocolate brown, completely opaque. Half a finger of off-white head that quickly dissipates to a thin ring.
Smell: Dried fruit, cherries, brown sugar, milk chocolate. Very sweet.
Taste: Sweet dried fruit and brown sugar, with a lightly roasted chocolate malt backbone. Extremely low bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Thick and creamy, with mild carbonation.
Overall: An unfortunately rather cloying barleywine that could use a bit less sugar in the tank.

Overall an excellent barleywine, and I normally don't even like this style. It's dark cherry, oak, vanilla and bourbon all the way, with a candied nuttiness on the end. Love!

Thanks to the moose3285 for this gold-waxed 12 oz. bottle. Evidently he goes around randomly handing things like this off to people he barely knows.
I thought this was a stout, because I’m an idiot, so the muddly brown pours sans head was a bit disconcerting. Nose is intense: wood, bourbon, vanilla, toffee. I approve of all those things.
Remus’ Revenge 10 & 2 brings a bourbon gun to a knife fight. Sinus-clearing bourbon lays like a lead brick across the body of a toffee, caramel-laced barleywine. Powdered sugar sweetness, rich vanilla, & hint of grain alcohol siphoned straight out of the gas tank round out the experience. Heavy, thick, & flat, though it doesn’t really detract. A bottle like this would be good for splitting.
Mostly this tastes like a hangover – big, brawling, unrepentant, like Rick Grimes distilled into a glass. Good beer; thanks Mike.

Appearance is a murky dark copper with a thin beige head that recedes quickly leaving minimal lacing. Aroma is boozy and fruity. Taste is slightly sweet burnt sugar and vanilla with a healthy dose of bourbon. Medium bodied and slightly hot.

Appearance – Brown and hazy with a half finger head that dies to a thin ring.
Aroma – Rich malt, oak, molasses, brown sugar, alcohol, and vanilla.
Taste – Strong malt and strong alcohol. Light oak. Very boozy. As it warms the flavor intensity went down.
Mouthfeel – Surprisingly thin for a barleywine. No heft to the body.
Overall – Not a bad beer but not a good example of a barleywine, in my opinion.

This is almost a 5. It's damn good. It looks just about like bourbon only much more opaque. A mild aroma of caramel and whiskey. The taste is frickin' sensational. Caramel, vanilla. a shot of bourbon, a well balanced sweetness that melds perfectly with the boozy barrel aging. A boozy toffee dessert. This is a real treat. Not much in the way of carbonation. The bottle says 12.5% ABV ad you can certainly taste the alcohol yet it still so smooth! One of the best things I've ever tasted!
