From a 650 ml bottle (dated February 19, 2015) to a snifter.

A-The beer looks thin as I pour it. The short head is a darker-than-average shade of brown. The beer beneath is pretty much black in color. Ho-hum looking stuff.

S-The aroma is heavy on the dark chocolate notes with hints of char or smoke. I pick up the salt, which seems to accentuate the bitterness from the dark roasted malt flavors, but I am not picking up any barrel notes. I would expect it to smell smoother than it does with addition of wheat, but it is kind-of abrasive.

T-The taste is also heavy on the chocolate and I am picking up quite a bit of salt. The pils malts give the beer an odd crispness that seems out of place on a stout, but I guess is mimics the bready flavor of a pretzel. The finish is strangely bitter, but not in a typical stout fashion and I suspect the bitter flavor is more due to the adjuncts than anything else. I am still not picking up any barrel flavors.

M-The body is on the thin side for a stout with a semi-crisp carbonation.

O-This beer did not really work for me. The salt seems to amplify things that I didn't want amplified. I'm not sure if it would drink differently fresh versus almost two years old, but I have had better.

Pours jet black, smell and taste of biscuit, dark chocolate & salt - the first CCC beer to absolutely merit a 4+ rating on BA. These guys are coming on strong - and this beer is damn good.

Poured into snifter, raises a finger of tan head. Smells like chocolate and bourbon. Loads of chocolate on the tongue, with hints if coffee, leather, and vanilla. Then the bourbon...plenty of it. Mouthfeel was spot on, creamy but not thin and cloying. Surprisingly great. Will be looking for more. Cheers!

A: Pours black with half a finger of brown head that fades into a bubbly ring with little lacing.

S: Roasted malts, burnt sugar, oak, a bit of bourbon, and semi-sweet chocolate dominate with a bit of vanilla. Maybe it's just because of the name of the beer, but there seem to be some pretzel-like aromas as well.

T: Roasted malts, burnt sugar, semi-sweet chocolate, oak, and bourbon dominate. The finish is lightly boozy and bitter with some charred aftertaste.

M: Very thick body with lowish carbonation, this beer is quite viscous while still being drinkable.

O: An enjoyable beer, overall. It strikes a decent balance between the stout and barrel characteristics and is super creamy, which I like.

Poured into a Haw River Farmhouse Ales teku glass. Label says Bottled On: 02/19/15.

A- Pours a fully opaque black color with a 3/4 inch medium brown head that retains very well before slowly dropping to a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a mostly full sheet of surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves a broken ring behind.

S- Milk chocolate aroma with a moderate sweetness.

T- The flavor leans more toward the dark chocolate side of things and there's a pronounced booziness but not really much barrel character. Chocolate in the aftertaste is nice. Firm dark roasted malts. Pretty drinkable but not particularly exciting. Chocolate flavor intensifies as it warms.

M- Quite creamy with medium carbonation and a full body.

O- A pretty well-made BA chocolate stout but there's not a lot of "wow" factor. Triple C keeps putting out these barrel-aged offerings that are decent but can't really compete with the magic of other breweries that have a knack for it.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high dark tan head that hardly died down, consistently leaving a short head covering the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of chocolate are present in the nose along with some hints of salt.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste has flavors of milk chocolate and transitions to hints of pretzels. Notes of bourbon become apparent once the beer warms up.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer really smells and tastes like a chocolate covered pretzel—if you let it warm up it becomes more complex as the aromas and flavors of bourbon begin to peek out, but these never become that strong. Except for the bourbon, you do not get any of the alcohol.
