this is oddly light for an imperial stout, and almost tastes and feels more like an imperial brown than a stout, with some redness in the color and a relative lack of viscosity for the style. that said, the taste is excellent, relying more on the chocolate side of things than the roasted side, more dessert than coffee, which i think is a nice change of pace, especially in a beer thats on the dryer side compared to its peers. nice frothy head over a much thinner beer than expected. aromas of cocoa powder and almond, along with a touch of red type malt, caramel notes in here as well. the taste is a nice integration of the different malts, and i do like that its not loaded down and super dense, but i keep thinking brown ale, not stout, as i drink through this. loveland has made a ton of delicious and unconventional beers, i am a huge fan of their operation on the whole, and like the idea of this one, although it definitely was not what i anticipated. it has its merits, but dont expect the standard here. plenty drinkable though, and not boozy at all. well made beer with a twist.

The image this beer provides is very true to any good stout, dark and thick.
The nose gave me an intense alcoholic aroma, along with the standard chocolate and coffee notes.
The taste was also intensely alcoholic, tasting more like a liqueur than a beer.
Mouthfeel was extremely thick, much as I would expect from a good imperial stout.
Overall, the prevalance of the alcohol was the defining feature of the tasting experience, detracting from the good parts of this beer.

Definitely the best beer these guys got going so far.

Pours black with a nice mocha head. A nice, thick and heavy roasty and chocolatey aroma with some alcohol showing itself in the finish. Flavor follows suit offering some nice roasted malt, a nice thick milk chocolate, and some alcohol in the finish. Very tasty. A nice full bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Overall, a very nice imperial stout. Not the most complex but very enjoyable.
