Played tricks with some golden imps with this one on 5/25/2007. 12-oz. chalice pour at the Canal St. location.
According to the notes provided by the pub, "A Belgian Strong-Golden Ale brewed to celebrate Boston Beer Works on Canal Street's 6th Anniversary. Complex blend of spicy and fruity flavors. Don't let it's light golden color fool you! 8.5% ABV." Just a tight white sheet with military style corners for initial head with some trace amounts of lacing. Very light golden hue is a touch hazy, perhaps from being overly cool; little to nothing going on, like a chardonnay. Nice melon scent on the nose mingles with lemon zest, Pixy Stix sugar, and a touch of earthy basil. Very light on the tongue, bready, with a biting straw on the letter end; kinf of a zippy feeling on the tongue that, despite its ABV, is quite refreshing on this 90+ degree day. Some tinny touches come out as it warms, which is not entirely pleasant.
Nice anniversary offering that I would try again, see what a little more time does to it.

Sample at Beer Works Fenway: This beer pours a clear golden color with a thin ivory head that disappears quickly. S[ptty lacing. The aroma is floral hops and yeast, with touches of fruit. Light body with a floral character and mild hops and toasted malt flavor. Light yeast is present too. The finish is lightly yeasty with a slight peppery hops finish. Slightly above average overall.

Had this on tap at the Fenway Beer Works on 8/4/07.
A: Pours a clear amber with a half-finger head. Leaves nice sticky lacing on the glass.
S: Sweet fruits with a hint of spices. I can't say specifically what they are, but they're definitely present. A hint of the alcohol comes through as well.
T: Similar to the smell. Nice hints of fruits and spices around the edge, balanced by a nice caramel malt. No real hops presence. Alcohol has a little bit of a warming effect, but is not overpowering.
M: A little thick, but smooth and velvety. Drinks almost like a thick wine. Not bad.
D: I'd drink this again, but it's not something I'd go out of my way to drink. It's an interesting take on the style - certainly enjoyable. Pretty tasty.
