Enjoyed a 22oz glass of this yesterday (02JUL13) at Lowell Beer Works prior to the Spinners game.

Was served in an oversized weizen glass... It was a somewhat hazy, inviting, tawny bronze color. had some carbo floating about, and the head was creamy but short, an off-white/light beige layer. Lacing was well presented. The nose was somewhat mild, with some clove, a little banana, and a hint of caramel. The body was an acceptable medium, and it was rather smooth for a weizen bier.

Flavor had some light sweetness, with a touch of caramel, subtle clove, a hint of chocolate and some mild banana. Didn't quite posses the oomph of some noted weizenbocks, like Aventinus, but not bad, all in all. Prosit!

Appearance: 1/4 inch head, moderate carbonation, orange-brown in color, hazy

Smell: bananas

Taste: banana, dark wheat, and alcohol

Mouthfeel: sweet with a dry aftertaste, medium-heavy bodied and moderate carbonation

Overall: Not a bad beer overall by any stretch, but I have had several weizenbocks and this certainly falls below average for the style. The dark wheat and banana taste do not mix as well here as in my favorite examples of the style. Depending on what is on tap at Beer Works, I may get this again. However, I would probably pass by it for other weizen bocks in a package store.

Poured on-tap at Canal Street, and served in a pint glass. Unfiltered yellow-orange color, with a thin, filmy cover of head, but a huge cling all over the glass while you drink. Berry fruit and floral aromas, with a light malt and sugary sweetness, too. The flavors are super-sweet, with a light honey and nut initial flavor, followed by floral and some light caramel notes. The aftertaste is a little watery, with tangy, cloying sweetness. The finish is cloying and lingering. A little on the oversweet side for me personally.

First beer of the evening after the Red Sox game. Served in the usual BBW glass. Light brown colored body. Thin whispy head on top. Smell had a hint of malt and cinnamon to it. Taste was quite good. There was a nice balance between the malt and the wheat flavors, so you could really see how the brewer brings both flavors out in the beer. But, the one thing I think this beer really lacked was body. The mouthfeel was overly thin. If this beer had some body, it would be a standout. But, it is what it is, and thus I found it still easy enough to drink due to it's light body. A nice take on the style, but I would love to see this beer kicked up a notch.
