Received a tulip of dense medium brown (apple cider) colored brew. No head, but just a few bubbles from the pour. No lace.
Candied fruit, some fig and date, toffee notes in the nose.
Big sweet brew, with toffee, butterscotch, dried fig, dates, and vanilla. Alcohol is to well hidden, and while it facilitates finishing the beer, it leaves a very sweet coating on the palate. Some toasted bread notes as well. This seems more like barley wine, but we are splitting hairs here.
Full bodied, mouth coating goodness.
Very good, even with 15% as a kick in the ass. Some flaws, and a bit out of balance, but the stuff that works does it very well.

Poured on-tap and served in a tulip, the beer is a rich, vibrant, slightly opaque, amber-brown coloring with no head. Aromas of rich, sweet date and fig, with a touch of molasses and roast. This smells like a rich toffee toothache, but in a good way. Flavors are just as rich, with a toffee and dark caramel sweetness, with old world fruit sweet highlights. Sweet highlighting sweet, but avoids cloying somehow. Wine-like characteristics, almost akin to Port. Very heavy and rich feel, with a slight warmth to the candy sugar sweet aftertaste. This beer builds quickly on you. The beer actually has an abrupt finish, with the body feeling like it falls off a cliff, leaving only a touch of warmth behind.

Enjoyed at Lowell Beer Works with Alewife on the occaision of someones 54th Birthday... Hmmmm?!?
Ok.... Had a pint of Dye House IPL under my belt, plus some nachos. Dinner came and we both opted for a round of this 15% killer... Whoa!! Had a small tulip glass filled with a deep, dark chestnut-mahogany liquid. Was quite opaque, and the head was fine and thin, and just hung at the edges with little lacing. Aroma had some toffee and lots of dark, sweetish fruit. Enticing, yes it was.... Body was a solid medium, with a smooth, silky feel on the tongue.
Flavor was light sweetness with more dark fruit. Think prunes, figs, pureed raisins, dates... it was there, along with hints of toffee... And a big-ass warming feeling start to finish... If not for the big-ass ABV, we could have melted away in this...Somewhat barleywineish... A very nice cherry on top of todays birthday cake... Super!! Prosit!!

To start, I wasn't looking for this beer, it found me. Stopped in for some pre-concert brews and this was selected for me. The naming on this particular brew is very fitting, IT IS A MONSTER in every way.
From memory, served in a tulip glass it had a rusty reddish coloring and considerable lacing. The smell was exactly what a 15.0 ABV should be, a little overpowering at first and then you settle into it. The taste considering the first impression of the smell is rather smooth.
This is definitely one of those beers that depending on the drinker may fall into the "one and done" category. Godzilla consumed in quantities beyond two beers may find the drinker feeling Godzilla's wrath. This beer IS NOT for the common beer drinker!

Growler poured into a stemless red wine glass.
A: opaque chestnut brown. Rim of dull white foam. Lacing sticks around.
S: Brown sugar, raisins, plum, and molasses. Sweet, enticing alcoholic taste.
T: Wheat comes through nicely; it's not just the sweet notes. Well-balanced beer combining malty flavors with rich molasses and dark fruits. A hint of soy at the back of the throat, but not overpowering. It gets better the more you drink.
M: Pleasant alcoholic burn. The only drawback of this beer is that it's just a smidge too syrupy.
O: One of my favorite beers from Beer Works, and probably one of my favorite beers ever. Since I first noticed this on tap in March, I've gone out of my way to order it a few times. Beware- at 15% ABV, it packs quite the punch! A wonderfully sweet beer for after dinner, and just as good as other, more expensive beers of this style.
