Chestnut brown pour with a pillowy head to start. Soon after it will recede to a wispy top. Aromas already a foot away from the pour. Raw sugar, coffee/black tea and sweet cream. Taste is more like black tea. Dark cocoa bar. Lighter bodied. Dry finish, cocoa dust bitter finish which I find thirst quenching. This was brought over to me from a friend visiting from Michigan. Never noticed it was a black ale. I thought this was a porter-oh well. Nonetheless it is a good brew. Nice break from a summer overload of IPAs. Would get again.

Picked up a sixer of this, the ABV on the cans is 5.8%, canned on 7/7/26, let's give it a whirl. Popping the top I get a waft of earthy hops. Pours to a very black opaqueness with a slightly tan head. On the taste this brew is basic and balanced. Slightly roasted malts and earthy hops. Nothing spectacular but not the dramatic "drain pour" like the previous beer snob's review. Easy drinking and not overly complex.

Poured from an undated can into a glass. Liquid is very dark brown with lighter brown highlights. A one-finger tan head rises then falls before long, leaving behind a ring around the edge of the glass that provides almost no sheeting.

Aroma is sweet and slightly medicinal with toasty caramel notes.

Flavor is overly sweet. Caramel malts with a touch of smoke segue into a light cherry cough syrup finish. Low bitterness.

Mouthfeel is slightly creamy and a little thick.

I really wish breweries would put best-by or canned-on dates on their product. Who knows if this is just a sub-par beer or a year-old one? Drain pour.
