Style: American Porter

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Vanilla beans used in this beer come from... you guessed it: The Kingdom of Tonga. Tonga has over 170 islands and is located in the South Pacific. Fig, Raisin, chocolate and coffee notes (with a subtle caramel touch) set this beer off while the vanilla beans lead into a delightfully dry finish.

Had on tap at Perrin.

A: Bold and black. Slight creamy head.

S: Slight vanilla and malty.

T: Looks darker than it tastes. Medium vanilla taste with strong fig flavors. Finishes sweet with vanilla aftertaste.

O: A very good vanilla porter. The strong fig flavors surprised me at first but ended up enjoying the combined vanilla and fig tastes.

Enjoyed on draught at the Perrin tap room on 22 Mar 2014.

A: Body nearly black, passes no light. Head was a creamy off-white layer on the beer, good retention, some lacing.

S: Roasty malts, vanilla.

T: Follows the nose. Vanilla and roasted malt intertwine and carry this beer to a slightly sweet finish.

M: Velvety smooth. Medium to heavy body, softly carbonated. The high ABV has a warming effect as the beer is enjoyed.

O: This is a really good vanilla porter. Very enjoyable, and a great example of a fine Michigan craft brewery making the effort to brew a fine example of a higher ABV beer that is easily drinkable.
