Notes / Commercial Description:
Dirty Stop Out is our smoked oat stout that has all the characteristics of a heavy night out - Complex, dark, with hints of smokiness and perfume aromas. A blend of 9 malts matched up with a firmly hopped back bone make this a very self assured stout.

Pours a dark brown colour with a beige head. Aromas of smoked malt, nuts & caramel. Tastes is very much on the smoked side with again malt, nuts & caramel present along with bacon & some slight bitterness in the aftertaste. Overall I really liked this and will look out for there other offerings.

L: Jet black color, one finger brown head, great lacing, no visible carbonation.

S: Oats, coffee, caramel. Superb.

T: Coffee, oats. Definitely smells much better than it tastes.

F: Light bodied, drinkable.

O: If only it tasted like it smelled, this would have been a standout.

330ml bottle bought from The Vineyard, Belfast

Poured completely black even when held up to the light. Dirty mocha head poured tight, thick and foamy then faded slowly to nice thickish covering... some light sticky lines of lacing around the glass...

Aroma - Quite strong roasted malts, dark chocolate notes, ground coffee beans, some smoke notes although not as strong as i expected... treacle / burnt sugar sweetness, leathery, toasted nuts, faint liquorice, some pepperiness...

Taste - Nice roasted malt bitterness, toasted / burnt bread, some chocolate, light smoke, some creamy / milky traces, woody, light treacle notes, some grassy / peppery traces, some oatiness, light sweet nutty notes...

Feel - Quite smooth and creamy... medium bodied... a very sessionable porter...

Overall - A pretty good porter although not as smoked as i was expecting - i would have liked it a touch more pronounced... certainly worth a try though...

On cask, poured into a half pint glass. The aroma hints mildly at coffee with oats coming through strong in a secondary wave. There's also a smoky character to the nose with some chocolate and cream. It pours a deep, near opaque brown topped by a dense tan head that has good retention and excellent lace. The taste is a medium sweet up front with a medium bitter strengthening by the end. The creamy but light texture has a bit of a prickly carbonation. The medium body is smoky and roasted with chocolate and oatmeal flavors and a finish of bitter chocolate withroasted oats. The aftertaste is that of bread crust and dark chocolate with a sticky texture and a light cloying quality.

330ml bottle poured into a chalice glass

Look: Black, through and through - absolutely nothing when you hold it up to the light, that's how black it is. Dirty brown, bubbly head which soon fell back to pretty much nothing but a diffuse foam cap. Has a bit of a 'flat cola' look to it.

Smell: The bottle says it's an oak smoked stout, and there's definitely plenty of earthy, woody aromas in here although smokiness isn't quite as evident. In addition there's the 'usual' stout smells of burnt toffee, chocolate and a hint of coffee.

Taste: Definitely a smoky taste, though, no doubt about that. That's due, no doubt, to the nine (count 'em!) different malts used in the brewing process. Or so they claim, and I'm not one to doubt them. There's plenty of toasted malt/burnt sugar here, as well as a rather delightful peppery bitterness in the finish. Not bad at all, and definitely different.

Feel: Very smooth - decent body despite the 'flat coke' vibe. Plenty of malts up front with the peppery/smoky finish make this very sessionable.

Overall: Not bad at all, although I'd have like a bit more emphasis on the smokiness. There's plenty of earthy, malty flavours there to keep things interesting though. Well worth checking out.

At Bierkraft. Lunch witty Pedro, Miguel, David, Alberto & Miguel Angel Muñoz. In pint glass. With carrillera. Smooth with a soft smokyness and roastyness. Not bad, drinks very easily but is a bit boring, lack character

Pitch black color with a thick thin dark beige head with short retention.
Aroma with notes of dark chocolate, powder milk, oat (although the label does not mention it) and some nuts.
Flavor with notes of roasted coffee beans, cocoa, followed by a restrained smoked note, caramel, earth, oat, dark bread and wood. Dry aftertaste with a lingering roasted note.
Medium body with mild carbonation.
Well executed Stout with great malt complexity and further potential. Originality is there but somewhat hidden. I would suggest to increase a bit either the smoky character or the East European hops (ps.50 IBUs should be enough, but I am not feeling them as much) to further move away from the crowd.

It pours a black as night hue with a one finger head that stays and leaves a nice rim aswell as a touch of clingy lacing, the smell is smoke, oat and a heavy underlying hoppiness, the mouthfeel is medium bodied and a tad overcarbonated with tastes of smokey oats, milk chocolate and finished with a firm herbal hoppy bitterness which makes you reaching for another sip and overall this brew is not out of this world but is bloody drinkable and yeah I'd drink this again cheers.
