July 2015 bottle (#07775/10800). Brief impressions:

APPEARANCE: Fizzy head dies within 10 seconds. Body is a copper of average vibrance. Yeast sediment and lees are plainly visible floating in the body. Translucent and transparent, yet weak.

AROMA: Minor lactobacillus bacteria aromatics and accompanying acidity. Dried limes. Reticent wood barrel.

Not big on oak or on wine, and seemingly not all that sour (maybe a 3-4 out of 10 in terms of sourness). Malt backbone is neutral and shallow. Wheat, I guess?

TASTE: Far more sour than the aroma gave away - maybe a 6/10 in terms of intensity. Wheat/pils malt backbone is reticent. Above average acidity alongside the underwhelming blip of lactobacillus. Lemon-lime twang.

Lacks any expressive oak or wine tones.

I don't pretend to know what tamarind tastes like, but I don't find any notes that are out of the ordinary for a sour red. I'd love this to commit to more expressive bacterial flavours and/or to wild yeast(s), but overall it's balanced if a bit tame and shallow. I do like it, but some may find it slightly redolent of vomit given the presence of some weak butyric acid off-flavour.

TEXTURE: Acidic, smooth, and wet, with a weak unrefreshing overall presence on the palate. Light-bodied yet overcarbonated. Has an unpleasant sharpness to it from the overcarbonation. Not a soft or approachable mouthfeel.

OVERALL: Butyric acid off-flavour indicates Paradox needs to regain some control over their bacteria during fermentation, but it's not as major a flaw in this beer as it tends to be in most. All in all, not a bad sour but not a memorable one (especially coming from Colorado, which brought commercial sours to the U.S.A.).

500ml bottle split between a pair of snifters. Most of the sediment went into the other glass. Lable says 2015 AM-OAK 062015. Bottle number 04945 of 10800.

Pours a headless orange-amber with little carbonation. Moderately cloudy, but again, the sediment mostly ended up in the other glass. Smell is light-fruit-tart. Unripe peaches and green grapes.

Taste is very tart, but not very distinct. Still tasty. Has a little bit of a citrus tartness and an overall sweet-tart theme.

Mouthfeel is moderately dry, medium body. Overall, pretty good sour.

Bottle. Barely any hiss as I open the bottle. As it falls into the glass, it looks flat. A bit worrisome. Aroma is funky and tart. What the hell is tamarind? Tart, citrusy nose. Has a sort of sweet fruitiness as well. A little woody. Unfortunately, this is really flat. Not good for the feel. The flavor is tangy, tart and citrusy. A bit of barrel. Sweetness in the finish. Not the most complex sour ale I have run across. Really bummed this is flat. I spent $13 on this tiny bottle.
