The aroma of a freshly baked pineapple upside-down cake is a powerful force that often draws the entire family to the kitchen. To pay tribute to this classic gooey goodness, we've blended molasses-rich Muscovado sugar and caramelized crushed pineapple into our mixed-fermentation, Nicaraguan rum barrel-aged golden ale. Feel at home, right where you are.

Something about this was intangibly disappointing to me.
The beer pours a nice gold hue with a decent white head. It smells fantastic - lots of pineapple just bursting forth as soon is the cap is removed. Promising.
The taste is quite tart, but very sweet - so sweet that my teeth are hurting. Maybe I need to see a dentist, this has been happening all day long. But it's still sweet, and tart. The letdown, however, is that the beer is really lacking in barrel notes. I'm also note picking up any of the "upside down cake". There's loads of pineapple (which could go any which way, honestly - this stuff could be interpreted as sour apple if you were creative), but the cake part is entirely lacking.
Disappointing. I was quite excited when I saw this one.

L: Pours a brilliant yellow-orange color with a small fizzy head that dissipates quickly and leaves no lacing on the glass.
S: Notes of tart pineapple and some rum, mixed with a strong sourness and a bit of Brett.
T: Tart pineapple, a slight plastic taste, some rum in the background but very faint, and a strong tart and sour, I wish the pineapple was a little sweeter in this beer. A slight bit of fruity Brett. Some toasted grain.
F: Medium body to light body with higher carbonation.
O: This isn't a bad sour but I wish the pineapple was a little sweeter.

500ml Bottle
Bottle Conditioned
Poured into a chalice a very nice slightly cloudy reddish/pinkish color, very nice carbonation, with a pretty nice one-finger foamy/creamy off-white head, which leaves some pretty nice small islands and sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, with some nice grapefruit notes, slightly oaky. The taste is very nice, malty, bitter/sour, yeasty, real nice funkyness, very nice grapefruit, with some oak. Medium body, very nice bitter/dry finish. Overall, this is a very nice brew. Definitely one of the best from them.
