Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Known as the “Jewel in the Queen City’s Crown,” the Thomas hill Standpipe overlooks our fair city. Our Bangor Brown is the jewel in our line up of ales. Its contrasting chocolate-like malt profile, hop character, and dry-hopped aroma specifically denotes a true American-Style Brown Ale and makes it a real crowd pleaser. Dark and malty with a full citrus hop flavor this brew has a history as rich and colorful as the City of Bangor.

Delivered fresh 2 weeks ago from the brewery.

Obtained from my wifes uncle David who lives in Bangor and thought this would be right up my alley. Thanks David, I appreciate it!!

Pours a beautiful red amber color with a massive off white-head. The color when held up to the light shows off it's deep red appearance. Filtered definitely, no fines or settlable solids to speak of. Thick lacing is left behind along with a soapy layer of suds, nice...

The nose is mild but a clear aroma of dark chocolate and citrus fruit comes up close and personal followed by some earthy notes. I'm impressed with the hop aroma in such a low abv beer, nicely done.

The flavor is roasty with bitter chocolate and pink grapefruit. Caramel malt sweetness adds to the balancing act keeping this tastey and highly drinkable. The smoke is barely detectable but a plessure to notice. I'm really digging this...

The body is light and silky smooth with very little carbonation. Easy to suck down one glass after another. Finishes semi-dry.

Overall I really like this and at 4.9% brings me down memory lane when I power drank session beers. Sometimes you want to just put them down without the headache of a hangover the following day. The difference here though is this is tastey. A good looking beer and a pleasure to have. I think I may need to sample a few more beers from Geaghan Bros and definitely get a few more growlers of the Brown. Thumbs up!

Poured into a mug, the appearance was a semi-dark brown color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated at a moderate pace. Stringy lace. The aroma had some sweet to roasty nuts, milk chocolate, touch of coffee beans and a rounded earthy hop spice at the end. The flavor blended fairly nice between all of the prior mentioned aromas and added a little bit of citrusy bitter to sweet hoppiness. Roughly touches the aftertaste and grips the finish with a little bit of hop abrasion. The palate was almost medium bodied with a crisp almost sessionable sort of feel to it. Carbonation was a bit lower than expected. ABV felt fine. Overall, if that carbonation was pulled up just a bit more, I wonder if the hop abrasion wouldn’t be as harsh as it was. But the aromas and flavors came across really well.

Actually 6% abv, This pours dark brown with a bit of lasting tan foam. Aroma is a little bit of citrus, a little bit of smoke. Flavor is pretty similar - I don't tend to like hoppy browns, but this one is okay. The finish is dry and somewhat bitter and that's the only real disappointment.

Poured on-tap and served in a tumbler pint, the beer is a light, nutty brown color with a filmy, white surface coating of head. Light nose of roasted nut, both sweet and rich. Flavors of muddled sweetness, with mild chocolate highlights and a roasty backbone. Slight bitter hop profile at the end for a clean finish. The aftertaste is semisweet chocolate and hazelnut. Not a bad beer at all.

Like this one a lot. I little more hop presence than most brown ales but it works!

Great Brown. Definitely my favorite Geaghan beer so far.
