Pretty good store and likely the best in Birmingham. Has the best selection of most any place I've found in Alabama outside of Cottage Hill Package in Mobile (probably about equal actually). Singles of most everything and tons of breweries and beers to choose from. Separated by beer type. Another section of refrigerated singles that can either be purchased as normal or enjoyed on-site. Connected tap room. Wine selection as well. Great stuff. Even had some limited Funky Buddha 4 packs.

 

 

A beer lovers dream and my favorite beer place in the world. Absolutely amazing selection. Couldn't be better.

Vibe: Overall cool vibe. Don’t love the wire rack set up which has a bit of a warehouse / storage room feel. But it’s well organized. Cool vibe with the bar, high tops and growler fills. Definitely a laid back feel.

Quality: Great quality of beers across the board.

Service: Service oriented. Didn’t have to seek out the rep but was asked if I needed help.

Selection: Amazing selection of domestic and international, with another 30-40 beers on tap for in store consumption or growler fills.

My friend at work told me about this place a wow its was truly amazing!!! Its atmosphere was awesome and the selection of beer was outstanding. The service was on point but down to earth. I will be going back to this place in the near future.

 

Wonderful taproom and bottle shop. Large bar seats about 15, with covered patio seating on the side. Opposite the bar are aisles of beer & wine. Great selection, and they sell single 12s and fill growlers. Staff were top notch. Great experience and hope to be back before too long.

One of my favorite beer stores. Huge selection, lots of rare beers for Alabama. Not the cheapest, but always reasonably priced. Always an awesome tap selection, and the bar may be the best part. Always a lot of friendly, mostly unpretentious beer geeks present

Vibe: No overly-loud music or televisions is nice. They have a cool outdoor seating area as well.

Quality: Nice glassware, and clean lines. They also clean growlers before filling, which is nice.

Service: Most of the guys working the bottle shop area are pretty cool. I've had bad experiences with some of the Growlertown employees (rude, lack of knowledge). If you don't want to be working there, don't take it out on customers.

Selection: The bottle selection is fantastic. The Growlertown selection always leaves me wanting more. It's a large selection, but very basic. They have a few cool selections that are pint only (no growler fills). Compared to their Atlanta locations, their Growlertown is pretty pitiful.

BA should really add a Value score as well. I would mark Hop City low for that. They have the highest markup in town, and it's not even close.

THE place to go for local craft beers. 60 taps - menu available via Untappd or check their website at hopcitybeer.com. Tasters up to 16 ounce servings. Growlers, both 32 and 64. Awesome staff that will take whatever time you need to find that perfect brew (or case :). They host lots of events - tap outs, tastings, wickedly good local food vendors and a homebrew class every few weeks. Beers are sorted by style and they allow you to do singles! Also, if your better half isn't a hop head, they have a super wine selection. If you are a homebrewer, they have whatever you need from extracts to all grain and all the gear.

I am a big fan of sour beer and this is the place to go to find them (in Alabama). Great staff, great selection, good times! The only downside is where the place is located. Kind of a pain to get to if you live over the mountain.

They have a lot of beer. A lot of stuff on tap. However, CHECK DATES. I'm not from around here, so I just stopped by this shop because it was close to the interstate. They had some stuff I would have been interested in, but it was all old. Jai Alai that's 6 months old. Finchs that's all past the drink by date by 3-4 months. Bottles with layers of dust. Looking at what else is available around here, it seems to be the best in 100 miles, hands down. But, old beer is old beer.

Tasters are set at a very exceptional value, staff is knowledgeable, beer selection is world-class, prices are excellent, and everything is organized is a great way.

I came here while passing through Birmingham since I like the Hop City in Atlanta so much. They were very helpful and helped me find some beers that I wouldn't have been able to find back in Atlanta.

 

 

Absolutely great experience. They do a great job at helping their customer's find a great brew for their taste. One of my favorite growler filling shops.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A great bottle shop, Growler station, even home brewing supplies store. During busy times, the growler station can be a little bit of wait for a fill, but the on-tap (60) selection is very good. They also have a big selection of wine to keep the wine enthusiast busy while you have a beer. These guys know beer, which you would expect, but I have been to some bottle shops where the knowledge is lacking. Alabama was very late to the craft beer party, and Hop City is helping the scene catch up.
