Macchiato Espresso Milk StoutMacchiato Espresso Milk Stout
Notes: Abita Macchiato Espresso Milk Stout combines the rich flavor of roasted coffee with a full-bodied stout. Pale, caramel, chocolate and roasted malts create a dark color and intense flavor. Willamette hops balance the malt flavors, while natural milk sugar and oats add sweetness. During the cold brewing process, espresso dolce beans from PJ's Coffee are added for a natural coffee flavor.

"Abita Macchiato Espresso Milk Stout combines the rich flavor of roasted coffee with a full-bodied stout. Pale, caramel, chocolate and roasted malts create a dark color and intense flavor. Willamette hops balance the malt flavors, while natural milk sugar and oats add sweetness. During the cold brewing process, espresso dolce beans from PJ's Coffee are added for a natural coffee flavor." Brewed in the style of of a Milk Stout with Espresso Dolce Beans added. Available in 22 oz. bottles and limited draft.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to a snifter glass.

(Appearance) Pours a foamy frothed head of a pale mocha brown tone over a dark brown body. Retention is very good and lacing is light and patchy. 3.75

(Smell) Medium roasted malts, rich chocolate and decadent coffee aroma. Quite rich in depth and aromatic. Potency is moderate. 4

(Taste) Much the same, more roasted barley malt character than rich chocolate and moderate coffee flavor with very slight lactose sweetness. 3.75

(Mouthfeel) Texture is silky, slick, mildly chewy, medium dry. Carbonation is mild with a modest frothiness and a mildly crisp finish. Body is medium for the style and medium/heavy overall. Balance is slightly roasty and earthy bitter character over sweet. Alcohol presence is mild and there are no off characters. 3.75

(Overall) These big bottle releases are usually solid beers by Abita, and this beer in particular is quite a decent example of an American Coffee stout, although arguably a bit short on sweetness and body characteristics that would make it a milk stout, it is a solid balance of quality and price. Worth picking up at a reasonable price. 3.75

22 ounce bottle, stamp says best by 01/08/16. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch and a half tan head that stuck around a while. There's also a lot of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like espresso, bittersweet and milk chocolate, lactose, and some roasted/burnt malt and oats/oatmeal. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also the addition of some caramel flavor. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's creamy and a bit coating with a good amount of carbonation. It's also smooth and goes down easy. Overall I liked this, I thought it was a good espresso/milk stout. I'll have to pick up another bottle the next time I go pick up some brews! $5.99 a bomber.

Poured from the tap into a 20 oz mug at the Taco Mac in Atlanta. The appearance is a black color with a small tan colored head. The aroma is coffee and chocolate. The taste is very similar to the nose. An excellent beer.

Pours dark brown with a thin tan head.

The smell is of rich espresso with milk.

The taste is of espresso beans, milk/lactose, chocolate with a roasty finish.

It has a creamy medium-to-full body.

Nice use of coffee - robust and lingering while allowing a rich milk stout to come through. Very good price point. A great brew at a great value!

Super creamy, light, smooth, tons of espresso flavor. ABV is to low, needs to be higher, along with less carbonation. Crazy easy to drink, but one of the lightest stouts I've ever had. Great taste, would of been better with a thicker body.

Poured from Bomber into Tulip glass, left 2 finger dark tan head. Dissipated real quick. First thing that slaps you in the face is the coffee, it is there and it lets you know. Reminds me of smelling an iced Vietnamese coffee. Look, well held it up to a light and nothing passed thru, so it is pretty dark. Taste is pretty much what you would expect, nice coffee flavor, the lactose helps cut the coffee bitterness so it has a nice smooth feel going down. Saying it is a sweet stout, well don't let that scare you off, not as sweet as some stouts that I have had. The mouthfeel is a little light, but actually kind of like it, makes it more drinkable, not feeling like I am having a meal with this. All said, good effort, I wish I had access to the barrel aged version of this. This is a nice beer to start the day off with, or end the night. I would gladly pass on coffee after a meal if this beer was on the menu. I need to state that I had this also in the bomber when in Florida, and it was just the same. 2 thumbs up.
Also want to state that I have bumped this rating twice, the more I have it the better I like it.

Open with care if you get it in a bottle or growler - it foams from here to the Pole of Inaccessibility! When you finally get some - pours a rich coffee brown with a VERY thick tan head that leaves some good lacing. Quality coffee dominates the strong aroma, which has caramel, semi-sweet chocolate, roast malt and licorice notes as well. Flavor is like iced coffee - good iced coffee from a good cafe - that has touches of chocolate, caramel and licorice, as well as a malty underpinning so you know this is beer. Firm, fizzy texture leaves a strong and slightly bitter coffee finish. More espresso than milk, but udderly delicious.
