Notes / Commercial Description:
Bourbon Street Stout is an Imperial Stout that is aged in small batch bourbon barrels. Our Imperial Stout is brewed with a combination of pale, caramel, chocolate and roasted malts. Oats are also added to give the beer a fuller and sweeter taste. The roasted malts give the beer its dark color as well as its intense flavor and aroma. After fermentation the beer is cold aged for 6 weeks. This is necessary for all of the flavors of the malt and hops to balance and produce a very smooth flavor.

After the cold aging the beer is transferred into the bourbon barrels. It is then aged for another 8 weeks to absorb all of the flavors from the barrels. The result is a stout that brings out the roasted flavors from the malt and the warming toasted, vanilla, and bourbon flavors.

Poured from the bottle into a snifter glass.

Deep mahogany brown off the pour, hitting and filling a bit of a milky looking texture and dark walnut brown body. Creamy cocoa brown head, nice large two fingers, a bit creamy too. Leave a thin puck, and good bubbled collar mix.

Malted chocolate, kind of almost whoppers candy smelling. Lots of pecan driven like nut quality on this, sort of hazelnut, and a nice sweetness. This really smells nutty, how interesting and inviting. Some candy like softness as well, matching with this sort of resses candy cup quality. Not much hint of oak or oak driven aromas though, but a very good smelling brew.

Palate seems to show off the lighter side. Milky texture, with a light feel. Aroma drives the palate with a more chocolate maltshake angle and some tannic nut. Slightly wet body, with not alot of round character to it. Somewhat water finish and not very long lasting, but does drive a bit of dry nut character to it.

It's a decent beer, but doesn't seem to hint towards classic bourbon barrel age character. It sort of reminds me of a regular peanut butter porter than anything.

A: Very black maybe with a tint of brown. Nice two finger head with a creamy color.

S: Pretty nice aroma with some chocolate, coffee and a bit of vanilla; got a lot boozier as it warmed.

T: Quite underwhelming with not much going on. It tasted like a pretty bland milk stout with a pretty boozy bite at the end.

M: Very thin for a BA stout.

O: A decent BBA stout with some nice qualities, it's very drinkable and has some pretty nice aromas but overall nothing special.

poured into a snifter, pours a black that if held under a light, light barely seems to get through. a tan head dissipates rather quickly, but patches of bubbles remain; this is a boozy beer.
this beer has fantastic smell. The dark and roasted malts, chocolate, some bourbon and oakiness follow.
the taste comes off as a mixture of a coffee/and oatmeal stout, with a slight touch of bourbon at the end.
mouthfeel, goes down smooth, the best imperial stouts in my opinion have a thicker body when it comes to mouthfeel.
overall this is a nice stout, Abita makes some quality everyday beers, but this is the first 'special' or 'big' beer that i've really enjoyed from them.

I'm not sure how this is only rated an 86. The color is nice and deep, almost black. The nose isn't quite what I'd expect given 8 months in Bourbon barrels, but it's inviting nonetheless. There are obvious hints of vanilla, which I love. Personally, I feel this is easily the best beer Abita has put out.

I picked up a 22oz of this while on vacation and knew it wasn't going to be the best Barrel Aged Imperial Stout I have ever had, so my expectations were low.

First Smell / Taste Impressions - beer had a good mix of bourbon and dark maltiness that I like in this style. After warming up the booziness of the bourbon take over too much and the beer gets too thin for my tastes.

Final Impression: This is really not the worst BA Imperial Stout I have had but it's not something I would get again, unless it was the only beer available to me. There are a lot better options out there.

22oz bottle, best by date of 1/13/18. Pours semi-transparent amber brown with a large sized light khaki head; some lacing. Smells of bourbon, roasted malt, cocoa, char, vanilla, and oats. The taste follows with roasted malt, cocoa, bourbon, char, oats, vanilla, and nuts. Medium bitterness. Better after it warmed up to cellar temp. The body is thin but somewhat smooth with higher carbonation. Overall, it's a fairly average but drinkable IS with a good barrel profile.

Taste is roasted malt, cream, dark and sweet chocolate, as well as oak that surfaces when the beer warms. This is not the most complex or in your face imperial stout, but it is very tasty. I will look for this again.

22 oz bottle (2015?) served in a Belgian snifter.

Appearance: dark mahogany, nearly opaque black in the glass. Small head with partial retention and little lacing.

Complex aroma that changes with warming. An obvious but not overpowering bourbon aroma with a clear alcohol presence. Has hints of caramel, dates and prunes.

Flavor: Sweeter than expected, but at a pleasing level. Bourbon and dark bread are dominant. Hints of caramel, oak and brown sugar. The bourbon comes to the fore in the finish, with fainter dark grains flavors. Bourbon lingers on in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Full body, finishing a bit dry. Good medium carbonation.

Overall: Nice strength and quality of the bourbon barrel influence. Impressive.
