Aged hoppy aroma. Dried leaves, caramel malts, some fruity esters. Flavor is citrus hops, fruit, raisins, caramel malts. Tastes a bit old. Finishes bitter and dry.

Smell has a grassy funk that is not to my liking as does the taste. Bottle has best by date that's over a month from now but no brew date so not sure if how fresh it is. I don't think it's spoiled I just don't like the taste or smell.

Brief impression from a bottle:

Apollo hops are dominant, imparting lofty bitterness and some mild hop oil flavour as well as herbaceous cannabis. Pale malt and some other heftier malt (I think crystal?) anchor it. Balance isn't quite dialed in and Mosaic hops are poorly showcased.

Drinkable but underwhelming. More mediocrity from Abita.

Poured from 12-ounce bottle into a stemless wine glass. Hazy, golden copper color, with an aggressive pour yielding a dense, two-finger white head that eventually settled to a decent cap. Big aromas and flavors of light caramel and toffee, pine and pine resin, tropical fruit, and grapefruit, all with a very nice floral undertone. Medium mouthfeel, quite bitter, with a rather dry finish. There is a touch of astringence on the back end, with some lingering, resiny bitterness. Overall, this is a very good beer with an interesting hop profile.

Poured into a grip shaped goblet: color is gold/copper, head is light tan with fine, frothy bubbles that present deep with 2 inches of head, which then dissipates to top and some lacing on the glass.

Smell has some toasty malt, then the hops kick in with light grapefruit and other citrus like notes, some herbal notes as well.

Taste has a bit more bitterness than aroma - toasty malt is evident, maybe some biscuit, grapefruit/citrus hops, light herbal notes.

Mouthfeel is bitter, a bit strong and biting on the tongue for the lower level flavors and hop notes.

Overall a decent IPA, as some indicate this is probably fairly good really fresh but loses its quality with age quickly.

Very nice and refreshing IPA - always been meaning to try more of Abita’s offerings. Nice golden color, slightly hazy with mild head. Smells nicely of hops, more citrus than floral. Tastes of great citrus hops, again a little less floral hops. Mild bitterness is well balanced by the sweet malt. Thin mouthfeel, good amount of carbonation throughout. Very easy to drink and no unpleasant bitter aftertaste.

Decanted from a 12 oz (355 ml) bottle into a conical pint glass; no production information available.
A: Pours a light copper color with exuberant, one inch light tan head formation, solid solid retention, rings of lacing all the way down the glass.
S: Aromas of berries, particularly straw- and black really strong with, Twizzle Stix and caramel malt evident.
T: Caramel malt up front with some berry flavor in the background. Strong bitterness, perhaps more consistent with a WCAIPA.
M: Light to medium bodied with medium to strong carbonation.
O: Surprised by the bouquet. Really an interesting AIPA.

Showcasing modern tropical hops. This quenches my thirst perfectly after business meeting and 3 hour flight to New Orleans. also nice malt backbone/sweetness to balance bitter assault.

Taste - mango plays center stage, tart citrus dances in the backgrounds and lingers

Feel - feels full, thick, viscous, like gnawing a fresh fruit

Overall - exemplary fruity IPA

Best By: 08/06/17

Pours a pretty nice slightly hazy dark golden yellow/orange color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy two-finger off-white head, which leaves some very nice creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit), piney. The taste is hoppy, malty, with a nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruity), nice pineyness. Medium body, ABV hidden nicely, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty brew.

a sturdy and super high alpha ipa, the kind of beer you need to wake you up in the morning sometimes, especially in new orleans, where night turns into morning pretty quickly. if this isnt fresh, dont even bother, but if you catch it just right, there is a gorgeously robust ipa in this bottle, malty enough only to support a ton of bitterness and a bright citrus hop profile, rich without being sweet, and substantial without being heavy. some of the flavors here remind me of victory hop devil, not as red malty or anything, but the raging intensity of the hops combined with enough grain backbone to make it pretty hefty is happening here too. thats a compliment. i like how bitter it is, we just dont see that anymore with the juicy dry hopped craze taking over, its nice to have something with some bite. its remarkably dry in the end too for how much of a grain influence there is here, and it drinks easier than it should for being so flavorful. i didnt love the way it warmed up, so i advise drinking it swiftly, but when ice cold and fresh, this is a delicious beer. abita impressed me on my trip to new orleans, a lot more interesting and high quality beer than i had experienced from them before...

Enjoy by date of Jan 2018. Poured to mason drinking jar.
L: Hazy orange. Nice bright head. Good retention. Lacing slid down the glass.
S: Very distinct and citrusy. Sharp, loud and evident pink grapefruit and orange peel. Has some tropical elements as well. Pretty sweet. I love it!
T: Very flavorful for an IPA. Matches the nose, very citrusy but plenty of tasteful bitterness to accompany.
F: Medium. Crisp. On the dryer side. Very drinkable.
O: This one really hit the spot for me. The aroma was very strong and enjoyable and the taste didn't fall short. I am very impressed with the Wrought Iron. It's better than I expected. Found this as a single bottle at Winn Dixie Inverness but would entertain a sixer anytime! This is a very good beer. Much better than Andygator IMO. A much better than average IPA.

Hazy orange color with a lasting white head. Smell is floral with malt in the background. Taste follows with hops upfront and a solid malt finish. Very good carbonation level and overall mouthfeel - not too sweet or too dry. Overall just another solid IPA in what has become a very crowded field.

12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass.

L---Hazy orange color. Nice, off-white head that stuck around and left some lacing.

S---Not as hoppy as I expected. Smell was sweet & fruity (citrus).

T---Followed the nose; sweet & orangey with grapefruit. Little hops, no bite from hops at least.

F---Creamy & wet. Nicely carbonated. No astringency from hops.

O---A very good beer, just not what I was expecting from an expensive IPA. I'd definitely have another.

It pours large a orange hue with a good foamy white head to it, The smell is of citrus ( mostly orange to me). The taste also has a orange sweetness at first then the bite of grapefruit. It is light a large amount of carbonation. Overall nost the best I have had from Abita but still good.

Had 2 of these at the trenasse bar in the Hotel Intercontinental on St. Charles. Slightly hazy with an average head. Good carbonation and a wonderful smell, lots of citrus, pine, and what I guess I'll call molasses. Even though it has some indication of sweetness in the smell its not overly sweet. Overall it was a pleasant surprise.

In true Louisiana fashion, every beer that rolls out of Abita is a concise, crisp, clean and dry taste compared to other beers of other regions. Their IPA that features Equinox, Citra and Apollo hops is a lighter, much more succinct taste and texture while using these new, sexy and coveted collection of cones.

Wrought Iron pours a golden orange hue with a significant but normal haze. Its fluffy white crown emits a wealthy hop perfume of citrus, tropical and orchard fruit along with a broadly herbal bouquet. Its taste is lightly honied and caramelized with toasted grains in a near cereal-like form.

As the hops open up on the middle palate, they abound with the taste of tangy, under ripe orange, pink grapefruit and a tangy lemon and lime medley. Tropical flavors reveal a tangy succulence of young pineapple, mango and papaya before the closing chords of herb, pine and grassiness provides the bitterness that solid IPA deserves.

Light in body, the beer's ample carbonation provides a militant bubbly lift while exposing a light carbonic bite. The rawness of grain comes across lightly astringent while the lemony side of hops contribute a southern sun tea taste. Dry, crisp and highly refreshing, Wrought Iron IPA delivers on its hot weather promises.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle,into a Funky Buddha snifter.Best by 06/04/17.

Frothy off white head that stands just under 1 finger tall.Moderate retention and lacing.Hazy orange in color, with distorted light showing through the glass.Very little to no carbonation.

On the nose I get piney resin hop,and caramel malt notes.Maybe a little bit of tropical fruit notes, but not much.

The palate follows the nose with caramel malt up front, and piney resinous hops in the middle, and on the back end.Getting some grapefruit characteristics as well, but that is about all as far as fruit flavors go.

The mouth feel is medium heavy with a dry finish, and light oxidation on the tongue.

This is a decent IPA,but nothing special. It has more hop characteristics than malt characteristics to me.Not bad but not great.I probably wouldn't drink it again, but I'm glad I tried it.

Pretty good IPA, lots of grapefruit and other citrus. My first Abita (other than a purple haze in my maybe too early days) and it definitely was a good start.

To be honest, this beer was so bad that it prompted me to create this account to rate my first beer.

Labeled as an IPA but tastes like a brown ale that has been infused with a literal wrought iron fence.

Everything was wrong with this beer. Smelled and tasted nothing like an IPA, just overall bad taste, no hoppiness to it. Even considering throwing out my 3 leftover beers.

I wish the team at Abita the best of luck, but they need to go back to the drawing board with this one.

Cloudy with a decent head has the strong hoppy smell of an IPA. The taste is strong and overbearing. They could have spelled the wrought part rot as in rot gut. Not a fan of IPA'S if you can't tell.

Pours a red-orange with a fluffy white head. Has an earthy pine smell. Tastes fruity at first, but has a piney aftertaste. Less bitterness than I get from most IPAs. Mouthfeel was well balanced. Overall, not a bad beer.
