Pours a slightly hazed amber with a thumb+ of cream colored head. Never completly clears, great head retention & lacing

S: Mango & pineapple

T: Grapefruit pith, lemons, breadyness up front, a little pear as well. More grapefruit as this warms, a little pineyness, plus leafy hops, alittle mango sneaks undeer the bitterness. Finishes with pears, mangos, leafy hops, & slight breadyness

MF: Medium bodied, creamy carbonation, pretty good balance

Drinks fairly easy, not perfect, but I would drink it again, wish I could find a freshness date on this bottle. Most of Abita's new stuff has impressed me. A couple of years ago I wrote these guys off, they've proven me wrong!

On tap at BC's Pizza & Beer

A: Pours slightly hazy golden orange amber with a creamy off white head that settles to a thin layer and laces nicely.

S: Candied fruit, citrus, tropical and floral notes, bready malt, and a touch of caramel sweetness.

T: Bright citrus and tropical fruit, tangerine, pink grapefruit, mango, papaya, passion fruit, cantaloupe, candied fruit, some bready malt, and a little caramel malt sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: This one has a really interesting fruity character.

It seems like there are a LOT of Abita bottles suddenly coming into my local market, so I am willing to take a break from The CANQuest (tm) & review some of the ones that I may have previously overlooked.

From the bottle: "Abita Wrought Iron IPA embodies the resilient, indestructible nature of New Orleans. This india pale ale is forged with the intensity of Apollo, Equinox and Mosaic Hops. Brewed with pale ale malt for a golden color as bright as iron from a fiery forge."

I Pop!ped the cap & let fly with a heavy-handed pour. It is made of wrought iron, so it should be able to withstand the shock. I was shocked by the sudden appearance of two fingers of dense, creamy, French Vanilla-colored head with good retention. It left nice lacing in its wake as it slowly fell. Color was solidly Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had an odd earthiness, like freshly-turned soil, onions and blueberries. Hmm. I will reserve judgement on "Smell'/nose until I taste it. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste had a definite bite, but it really tasted better than it smelled. It even caused me to peek at its date-stamp: "Best By 04/11/16" so freshness was not an issue. I initially thought of blueberry pancakes, but then I began to get an odd onion flavor giving it the bite that I mentioned a moment ago. Warming, a garlic flavor began to accompany the onion. WTF?!? I have to admit, I kept thinking that this was more like an EIPA than an AIPA. Finish was dry, but more earthy than bitter. It was as though the malt was driving it to some extent, but then being interfered with by the amalgam of hops. I really feel like I am ready for a nice, hoppy AIPA at this point, but I have one more Abita beer on deck.

Bottle w best by date of June 14, 2015.

Hops: Apollo, Equinox, Mosaic

A: pillowy head, steadfast lacing, golden orange made cloudy by hop oils. Very nice.

S: hard to pin down fruit/veggie/compost. Citrus plus mild vegetal suggests Equinox hops.

T: follows nose with dank, flavorful burst mid-palate, followed by nice bitter finish.

F: medium dry with slight sharpness on tongue.

Very, very interesting: brewery not known as one of beer connoisseur's faves makes challenging, new-school-hop-based ipa that does not appeal to lowest common denominator. Appeal is to confirmed hopheads. As a fan of dank, bitter brews, I like it very much. However, I think the equinox hops and Apollo bittering hops are slightly too dominant. Could use a bit more of the brighter side of mosaic and the other hops to be a real crowd pleaser. In the end, though, it's a must-try for hopheads and a nice step forward for Abita.

Usually not a fan of Abita, but this is a pleasant surprise. Beer store guy recommended it. Grapefruit citrus, melon and malt sweetness in the smell. Taste pretty much mirrors the smell with a big grapefruit bitterness on the back end that lingers. Borderline tongue tingling. Worth a try.

In true Louisiana fashion, every beer that rolls out of Abita is a concise, crisp, clean and dry taste compared to other beers of other regions. Their IPA that features Equinox, Citra and Apollo hops is a lighter, much more succinct taste and texture while using these new, sexy and coveted collection of cones.

Wrought Iron pours a golden orange hue with a significant but normal haze. Its fluffy white crown emits a wealthy hop perfume of citrus, tropical and orchard fruit along with a broadly herbal bouquet. Its taste is lightly honied and caramelized with toasted grains in a near cereal-like form.

As the hops open up on the middle palate, they abound with the taste of tangy, under ripe orange, pink grapefruit and a tangy lemon and lime medley. Tropical flavors reveal a tangy succulence of young pineapple, mango and papaya before the closing chords of herb, pine and grassiness provides the bitterness that solid IPA deserves.

Light in body, the beer's ample carbonation provides a militant bubbly lift while exposing a light carbonic bite. The rawness of grain comes across lightly astringent while the lemony side of hops contribute a southern sun tea taste. Dry, crisp and highly refreshing, Wrought Iron IPA delivers on its hot weather promises.

Bought this at the Total Wine in Colombia, SC. Definite floral and citrus hopes come through in the smell. Taste is definitely summer like with citrus and lots of pine coming through. Beer finishes nicely and very smooth. Definitely a well balanced IPA with less bitterness than most without lacking on flavor and malts. Definitely happy I found this.

Poured into IPA glass. It pours a hazy, orange-amber color with a thick, frothy milk-white head and extensive lacing. It smells of grapefruit, caramel, bread, and floral hops. The taste is very hop forward with lots of bitterness. It also features the grapefruit I smelled and just a hint of the caramel. It is dry and refreshing, medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation. With an ABV of 6.9%, it is substantial but still very easy to drink. Overall, I really enjoyed this IPA. It is one of the best Abita offerings I've tasted.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Shaker pint glass, "best by" date 2-16-16.

APPEARANCE: pours a hazy, orange color with less than one-finger off-white head that quickly dissipated until a thin, broken layer of small bubbles remained, lighter than average carbonation, there is significant lacing on the glass.

SMELL: bread, caramel and flowery.

TASTE: initially sweet caramel, bread then a powerful citrus hop blast that really lingered, the 6.9% ABV is imperceptible.

PALATE: medium body and lighter carbonation.

OVERALL: this is a good west coast IPA that has a very assertive hop presence, it's like a punch in the mouth, if you enjoy over the top assertive hops, this is your beer,

BBD 10/15. Pours a extremely cloudy medium amber with heavy particulate fallout. World class head volume, lacing and retention.

Nice rich nose of tropical (mango, pineapple), citrus (orange) and pine hops coupled with a hint of spice and biscuit.

Medium body with a smooth texture that has oily moments. Normal carbonation level with a bit of effervescence in the middle and a fair burst in the finish.

The flavor profile is intense, complex (but muddled) and balanced. It begins with a wave of blended hop flavors found in the nose. These flavors never really separate. The middle brings a mild bitterness that has rind and pine characteristics over a subtle biscuit sweetness with grainy cracker notes. The finish allows a bit of spice to emerge and a rind and pine bitterness lingers along with a pepper note. A solid offering.

Appearance (Look) = Hazy looking dark orange color with a one finger head, looks good so far.

Smell =There is something in the smell which I don't like, but can't identify. It reminds me of SN Rye IPA, which is a well made beer, but I just don't like it.

Taste = Taste is close to smell. Not a bad beer, but there is a taste which I get at the back end that I just don't care for. I think this is a balanced IPA, just not to my liking.

Overall = I'm rating this beer pretty low, I just don't like the taste. It does not mean it's not a quality beer, just not for me. I have tasted what are considered good beer that I just don't like.

Pours into a nonic a chill hazed orange tinged medium golden with a great billowing bone white head that settles very slowly into a frothy mass.A splash of citrus fruit and underlying pine resin in the nose, some caramel and sugary sweetness as well.Citrus fruits on the palate with some grassy and resinous notes to make a nice hop profile,it gets just a tad sweet in the finish with sugary notes...almost like a DIPA.Abita did well here,it's fresh tasting and easy to drink.

Pours a hazy pale orange with a thin, bubbly head.
Great aroma full of orange and grapefruit juice.
Tasty beer! Grapefruit and orange up front with a pithy, bitter middle, a rush of sweet and a bitter and dry finish.
Medium and somewhat smooth mouthfeel.
Really good IPA. i'll drink it again.
