Poured from a bomber into a Chimay goblet

L: Velvety black pour with 2.5 fingers of creamy tannish head. Fantastic lacing.

S: Chocolate and roasted sugars. A bit of booze and vanilla.

T/F: Cocoa nibs and sweetness to open. A bit of vanilla and oak from the barrel. Slight bitterness from the roasted grains... boozy and definite bourbon flavor but it doesn't overpower. Rich and creamy in mouthfeel. Carbonation is nice... finish is caramel and bourbon.

O: A very nice cocoa/bourbon mix. Lots of flavor.. love the creamy/smooth mouthfeel, and somehow lighter than expected. Good bang for your buck and easily the best beer I've had from Abita.

22 ounce bottle, best by date of 10/07/17 stamped on the bottle. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch or so tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like chocolate, roasted malt, bourbon, vanilla, wood and some coconut. Taste is similar to the aroma, with chocolate, roasted malt, woody, caramel, coconut, nuts, bourbon, vanilla, and some smoky flavors. It's certainly a sweeter tasting imperial stout. The bourbon is noticeable but not overpowering in the taste and aroma. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's a bit creamy and coating with a moderate amount of carbonation. The 10.5% ABV is well hidden, too. I thought this was a good overall brew, definitely worth a try! $9.99 a bomber.

Poured from a Bomber bottle.
It pours dark brown, with slight head. Nice lace.
The smell is a mix of vanilla, coffee, and definitely chocolate.
The taste is a very nice mixture of vanilla, cocoa, and a little bourbon. The lagering in bourbon barrels comes through! Caramel comes through at the end. A nice finish. Some mention a boozy taste, but I did not get that. It does NOT taste like 10.5% !
Mouthfeel is full and cremy.
In my area is is $$$ at $11.50, but worth a try!

Pours opaque, dark brown in color with 1/3 inch head. Taste is milk chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, and bourbon. Medium heavy bodied, sweet, with moderate carbonation. Tastes like dessert. The chocolate is so very smooth. Rich and velvety. Alcohol is well hidden. I like the Bourbon Street series and this is one of the better ones. Great beer. I will get this again.

AGED IN PAPPY VAN WINKLE BARRELS

A dark ruby color body with no head poured from a cask.
Chocolate aroma dominates with alcohol on the back end.
The flavor follows the aroma and includes a smoky note.
Mouthfeel is thick and creamy, not heavy.
Overall Abita hits the stout, malt over hop, AND hits the booze, but smoky chocolate is not my thing.

Snagged a bottle from Vintage Estate for 10.99. Into a basic pint.

Good looking beer very deep dark black thick with a 1/4 inch of deep mocha froth that dissipates to a thick ring. Smell is different more sour mash whiskey than sweet bourbon but it has some good chocolate aroma's and coffee roasts to balance. Taste is much smooth warming sweet whiskey tones, fudge chocolates and a smooth balanced roasty finish. Mouthfeel is perfect somewhat creamy medium to heavy body with a smooth finish with a warming bourbon feel but well masked ABV.

Overall a treat of a BBA Stout that may not be the best but its plenty tasty enough to have on my birthday!

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 10/7/2016. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, dark bread, light coffee/nuttiness, and roast/toasted oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa nibs, and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, dark bread, light coffee/nuttiness, and roast/toasted oak earthiness. Light roast bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, dark bread, light coffee/nuttiness, and roast/toasted oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa nibs, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great roast malt bittersweet and bourbon/oak spiciness balance, with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light dryness from bitter/spiciness, lightly increasing through the glass. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with a light warmth lingering after the finish; with zero barrel booziness. Overall this is an awesome barrel aged imperial chocolate stout! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa nibs, and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV. Very rich and chocolately, with just enough roast/dryness to not be overly sweet. A very enjoyable offering.

Great beer. Dark Brown to blackish in color. Small head. Nice chocolate taste. Really can taste the nibs. Went down smooth for as much alcohol content

This one must've been re-released. Enjoyed 10-15-16. Poured into a tulip glass.

A: Dark black with a light brown tinge. Moderate tan half-finger head that whittled down pretty quickly. Some lacing.

S: Bourbon dominates with caramel and chocolate backing up the rear.

T: Like drinking a bourbon-drenched candy bar. Chocolate and caramel mix nicely with bourbon. Sweet, robust. Goes down easy.

M: Medium to heavy with medium carbonation.

O: A terrific sipper. Recommended.
