BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Abita Brewing Co.
Louisiana, United States

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The hop flavor's big, but like life in New Orleans, we're taking it easy. Big Easy IPA is brewed with lemon peels and dry hopped with Cascade, Amarillo, Centennial, and Simcoe for a hoppy aroma of citrus, fruit and pine. Easy to drink and just right for long hot days, steamy nights, parades, or a day on the river with friends.

Creamy gold with a half finger white head.

Grassy pine and biscuit on the nose, not getting much citrus.

Taste is buttery, grassy caramel, with a coppery astringent thread making this overall unpleasant.

Fluffy start, dry, bitter finish.

Appearance: Pours a nearly clear, yellow-hued body with just under an inch of whitish foam.

Smell: Predominately lemony, with some pithy, resiny pine hints to it, too. Underneath, some scant, biscuity, crackery malts.

Taste: Very thinnish malts, watered-down biscuits, crackers with not much sweetness to show for it. Middling lemon quality, also some pine resin and pith with ample bitterness. Drying, lightly lemony finish with the flavors continuing to thin out even farther to a watery end.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Not so good, it presumes a session IPA means watered down. There's far too much 'easy' in the Big Easy.

12oz bottle, sample from the brewery.

Not much of an IPA, I know it's a "session" version but it tastes like a hopped up Pale Ale. Just enough bitterness with a good amount of hop flavor. Fruity with a dry graininess in the middle. Finishes dry with an odd hoppy after taste. Not half bad.

Pours clear, gold in color, with 3/4 inch head. Taste is dry hops, citrus--lemon and tangerine, and some grassiness. Tasty and very easy to drink. I can see myself having several, especially as the weather warms.

Look: finger-width, foamy head over light yellow body with columnar bubbles. No sediments.
Smell: piney and hoppy aroma- not too strong
Taste: crisp, piney taste that fades quickly on the palate
Feel: light-bodied and effervescent on the palate
Overall: nice, drinkable brew. Good with a meal!

Deep gold in color with a fingernail of off white. Moderate lacing. Nice citrus hop aroma along with some light malt. The citrus hop flavor is moderately aggressive and bitter. There's enough light biscuity malt to keep it in check. The mouth is fairly crisp and dry.
