One finger head atop a clear yellow body on the pour. Appropriate for the style.

Aroma was medium bodied malts, very light on the hops. Slightly grassy, and a little bit grainy. Overall pretty good, as most lagers I seem to encounter are skunky.

Taste was initially bitter and slightly lemony. A little bit of sweet grain flavor was apparent. Not bad.

Mouthfeel is pretty good. Not unforgettable, but good.

Drinkability is good for the style. I am not a big fan of lagers, but comparing it to others of the style I have had, this was better than average.

Bottle on 07/13/2006.

Poured clear golden color with a large frothy head that lasted and poroduced very good lacing. Moderate floral sour citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Medium smooth citrus bitter flavor with a medium bitter finish of average duration.

Solid refreshing beer.

The aroma has corn malt, and floral hops. The appearance is hazy gold with a small head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall it's so so at best and gives the feeling that this is sub par beer. I am not sad that it has been retired.

12oz bottle.

Poured a lighter to medium (with a slight haze) golden color with an averaged sized white head. Aromas of grass, grains, floral and light citrus. Tastes follow although on the weaker and somewhat watery side with somewhat of a honey sweetness to it. Thin body.

Notes from and tasted on 3/19/07.

A hazy bright golden color. Half a finger of foamy head. A classic pilsner look.

The smell is a pleasant flowery aroma, with bitter Euro/German hops. Doesn't have the too-bitter chlorine smell that afflicts too many pilsners. Really crisp.

The taste has a nicely bitter but diverse hop flavor. The bitter is there, but so is a nice flowery, estery hop. Like a very hoppy pale ale. The malt does have the characteristics of a pale, but steps aside wisely to play straight man to the hop. This is a really good flavor; slight grapefruity finish.

The feel is fizzy and bubbly like champagne. Very nice. Supports the effervescent flavor. It's a superior, flavorful pislner. Lots of diverse tastes. Wonderful finish. To me this is what a pilsner should always aspire to.

this beer poured a clear golden color with a tan ring. the smell is bready, yeasty and i also smell floral hops. the taste is very floral with a faint malt sweetness. nice balance and a bit of spiciness as well. the mouthfeel is consistant for a pilsner. this is one of the better offerings i have had from abita. a pretty decent pilsner, which is usually not a style i drink.

Found this beer as a part of a mix-six pack shelf, I guess they had them leftover from last year. It poured a slightly cloudy goldenrod in a pils glass with a foamy white head and web-like lacing around the glass. Aroma was musty, earthy, and slightly sweet.

I was surprised by the amount of fruity hop flavor this beer displayed. There is a distinct sweet citrus taste, as well as some grass and tea-like notes. The malt profile here is reserved, but everything is in proper balance. Mouthfeel is medium-thin and well carbonated. I was extremely impressed by this pils, I wish Abita would have made it a regular, because I would certainly buy a six-pack of this.

Pours a hazy gold with modest one finger head that dissipates quickly.

Nice hop aroma, well balanced, inviting.

Taste is very well balanced, possibly the best Czech Pilsener I've tried. Wish more of this were available. Took a while just to obtain this one sample.

Light, clean mouthfeel; not heavily carbonated.

Great drinkability, could easily consume mass quantities if I could find it.

Whoa, there's some crazy funk in the aroma after the pour, but it mellowed out to a nice grassy and herbal smell. At first I wasn't crazy about this beer, but given a little warmth the hops opened up nicely. The malt never came out, and that's the only thing holding this fine pilsner back. I'd say it stack close to the best imported pilsners on a good day.

12oz bottle dated 11/26. Pours a pale gold, a bit cloudy toward the top of a pils glass, clear toward the bottom--a torrent of bubbles raging up through the center. Thin but creamy white head--decent retention and some spots of lacing.

The aroma is floral and citric, with a slight grain note. The flavor is light, with a light grain sweetness, some lemony citrus and soapiness, and strong hop presence on the finish, though the malt also adds a creaminess on the tongue at the finale.

The mouth is light-bodied, the carbonation is sufficient. Solid complexity for the style, and it is very well balanced. Extremely drinkable, and one of the best in the Abita stable.

Probably the best Abita beer that I've had so far, I wish they would make this a part of their regular lineup. Poured golden with nice white head and nice lacing on glass. Hops taste and aroma is evident right away. Extremely high on the drinkability scale. A great beer.

Appearance - Gold color with minimal head.

Aroma - some light citrus and stong hops.

Taste - very robust hop flavor. Has a dry aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - crisp and light.

Drinkability - This is a good spring beer. I would recommend this to friends. Not one of Abitas best beers though.

Please forgive the brevity and lack of specific detail in this review. This is the first time I am doing a review from memory, rather than from notes or with the beer in hand. I just had to give props to what is THE BEST PILSENER I HAVE EVER TASTED. Czechvar, SN Summerfest, Pilsener Urquell, and other Czech Pilseners I've tasted are not even in the same league, as far as I'm concerned.

I am not a particular fan of Abita brews. I find the TurboDog, Purple Haze and Fleur-De-Lis decent, but they are not brews I would specifically seek out or choose over other examples of their respective styles. That is not the case with this beer. I've cleared out one store and will hit other outlets to do the same, if possible.

Abita 20th Anniversary Pilsener is one of the few lagers that I can say I would definitely choose over an ale. I cannot recommend this brew highly enough, and wish it would become a regular offering from the brewery.

Pours a clear yellow with a light head on top. The nose is lovely, floral and fragrant. The flavor is much more full bodied than your typical pilsner. Dry, but not bitter and very smooth. The floral notes continue with a very mild hopping. I was suprised by this and would have this thirst quenching refresher again. Thanks to dherling for the bottle.

Appearance - a slight chill haze to this straw-colored beer. A minimal head manages to sustain a bare cover. Stray dotted lace, a decent start.

Aroma - delicate Saaz aroma, some light citrus, and faint grain.

Taste - good citrus and robust hop flavor, very hearty. The swallow shows a good grain/hop balance. The aftertaste is dry, showing off classic German pilsner style.

Mouthfeel - crisp and light, but with enough body to complement the flavor.

Drinkability - a great warm weather brew and accompaniment to deli food.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle to a tall pils glass. The liquid is a pure gold with ok carbonation. The 2 finger white head fades fast and leaves little lace.

The smell is a very nice classic pilsner, Dry hopy.

The taste follows, Dry hops over a nice biscuit like malt. The finish is nice and bitter.

The mouthfeel in crisp and clean. Good medium body, and good carbonation.

The drinkability is good. Not the top pils out there but respectable. Prosit, MK

Very pale gold, kind of an ochre, sandy tint to it. Faintly hazy. Good head retention with sheeting lace. Citrusy, floral hops make up the bulk of the aroma. Pretty clean, if indifferent. Almost no malt character, save a light soup-cracker feel. The flavor opens up very weak. A surprising amount of hop flavor here, but otherwise it feels weak like your standard macro-brew lager. Very little depth or flavor to the malt, more or less hop flavored water with a little crispy, crackery grain steeped for a few minutes whilst encased in a tissue baggie. Extremely light bodied, close to water, with moderate carbonation and a fairly crisp, dry feel.
It's really not bad at all, just wierd, inexplicable and unexpected. The unfathomable love child of Coors Original and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. I'm sure they weren't shooting for a czech pils, but the feel is far too light and weak. Real bohemian pils actually has a fairly full body, and should be rounded and balanced. Mahr's pilsener and Burgerbrau are prime examples. I like this well enough for 12 ounces, but I doubt I'll be revisiting.

Bottle received from beerbeing as part of the BA Anny Bomber BIF. Cheers, bro!

Pours a clear yellow with a slight head. Smell is a little floral for a pilsener. Tastes hoppy for a pils and it reminds of Prima Pils with a little less bite. Mouthfeel is smooth and refeshing. Beer is extremely drinkable as a good pils should be. Solid example of the style.

Poured into pils glass:

Pours light golden yellow with a 1-finger+ head that slowly descends to a thin cover.

Smell is floral with slight citrus notes. Not really what I was expecting, but it's nice.

The taste is floral with some citrus. A solid sweet, grainy malt backbone makes this well-balanced. A nice hop character with good malt support. Crisp, clean, fresh and refreshing.

The body is appropriately light. Light, but not watery. Just dry enough. Nice carbonation level.

Smooth, refreshing and tasty - What's not drinkable about this? If you want a good, balanced pils, this is a good choice. Wish that this were a regular offering.

The beer pours a gold color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a nice pale malt scent along with a wonderful hop aroma. The hops smell very fresh. The taste is good also. It has a smooth pale malt flavor that goes down bitter and finishes bitter. The hops are quite outstanding and the malt bill adds excellent balance and mouthfeel. It is a medium/full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This has to be one of the best beers I've had from Abita.

Poured from a 12oz bottle with best by date on the back label. Poured a slightly hazy golden yellow with a decent head. The smell was lightly floral with a big hop smell as well. The taste was good but I'm not a big fan of this style (got in a sampler). Mouthfeel was also good. Overall, not a bad beer but just doesn't excite me or make me want another (3.0, RB, Tie, O)

A nice bit of complexity to this pilsener, with some interesting fruity notes to the light-to-moderate hopping. A bit of grain roughness in the initial malt flavor was distracting, but it mellowed out after the first few sips. Quite drinkable and low in acid.

12oz stubby poured into a pilsner glass.

A---Very hazy. Golden hued with a thin white head

S---Metallic and yeasty fading to phenols. Not what I would expect a pilsner to smell like.

T---Bone dry and watery malt up front then higher alcohols in the finish.

D---This was a less then average pilsner with a lot of off flavors and I could not finish it. I acquired it in a trade so I have no idea how old or how it was treated before I got it.

Thanks to pugman for sending this beer my way. Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a shaker glass. Appears a hazy, pale golden yellow color with about two fingers of dense, tight white foam that fades within a minute or two. Minimal lacing left on the glass with each sip. Smells of dried apricot, biscuits and mild tropical fruits. Tastes of peppery orange and lemon rind, pineapple, and earthy, pleasantly bitter hops. Finish is dry, crisp and bitter. Very smooth with medium to moderate carbonation. I've never been super impressed with Abita in the past, but this beer has changed my mind. Recommended. Give this one a try while it's still around.

Thanks Csims

Pours a cloudy pale yellow color, nice carbonation, nice small one-finger plus white head which leaves quickly, some nice little islands and sticky lacing afterwards. The nose is sweet, hoppy, malty, with some nice grapefruit scent. The taste is hoppy, a little malty, slight citrusy flavor, with a nice slight bitter dry finish. Light-Medium body. Very drinkable, a very nice session brew for the summer.
