Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.20%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Pecan Harvest Ale is made with real Louisiana pecans that have been toasted to perfection. That makes it something really special, because most beers with a nutty flavor or aroma aren’t made with real nuts. The natural oils from the Louisiana pecans give the ale a light pecan finish and aroma.

I poured a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance- Clear amber color with a finger and a half worth of light tan head. Fair amount of clingy lacing.

Smell- Caramel malt with some nuttiness and toast.

Taste- Caramel malt with a nutty flavor and just a hint of some grassy hops.

Mouthfeel- Smooth and slightly crisp. Light bodied with a fair amount of carbonation.

Overall- Pretty good and easy to drink. I would like a little more pecan flavor other than just a nutty taste. I think with a little tweaking this would be a great beer.

Amber color with white head that dissipates quickly to ring around edge of glass.

Smell has lots of nuttiness, coffee, and caramel. Not much pecan....

Taste is nutty and sweet. Again, not much other than "nutty" to call pecan taste.

Mouthfeel is light and very drinkable.

Overall this was good and worth a try. Wouldn't get just for pecan flavor, but good for what it is.

Served in a chilled pint glass.

-Appearance 3.5: Poured out a coppery red color. The 1/4" head slowly dissipated into frothy remnants. Very attractive.

-Smell 2.5: Hmm. Some of this bouquet is good, but some of it -mainly the part that reminds me of the smell of a pig-pen- is not. Still, this slightly nasty smell is overtaken by the barley and caramel. For the most part.

-Taste 3.0: Front is non-existent and the middle is just sort of sweet, with some slight barley hints in the back of the mouth. Finish is slightly sweet with very little taste other than some more barley. Aftertaste is short and flat.

-Mouthfeel 3.0: Good level of carbonation for this beer.

-Overall 3.0: Just OK. Nothing spectacular. I honestly did not taste anything that reminded me of pecans. I think that if the brewmasters at Abita tinkered with this one a bit, say by letting it age in bourbon barrels or some such, they would really have a winner on their hands. As it is, this brew is not greater than the sum of its parts.

12oz bottle poured into an oversized tulip. No bottle dating but should be from this season.

A: Two and a half finger pillowy white head. Body is a beautiful amber brown and very clear.

S: Toasted grain and nuttiness. Light caramel and a touch of coffee.

T: Lightly nutty, faint grassy hops.

M: Carbonation high. Thin and watery. Very easy to drink.

O: A disappointment. Lacking in flavor and complexity. Should be so much more.

A - light amber with a thick, oft, dense, white head that has great retention

S - pecans, coffee, roasty, caramel, nutty

T - faintly nutty, coffee, roasty, some caramel

M - medium bodied, well carbonated

This is a smooth, sessionable beer with a decent flavor profile. It's nutty and malty without being too much. It's worth a try.

The brew poured with a half a finger of white head on a clear, mahogany body with moderate visible carbonation. The nose has definite notes of pecan nuttiness with a hint of almost maple sweetness. It smelled really good. The taste was not quite as good as the nose. The taste had a lot of the nuttiness that was apparent in the nose with a bit of sweetness. But, the body was a little watery and there was very low carbonation on the taste. The finish was quick with a bit of nuttiness. Honestly, this is my least favorite Abita beer so far. It was a little too watery and boring for me. I wouldn’t have this one again.

Pours a clear dark orange with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, toasted nuts, and some slight caramel aromas. Taste is much the same but there are more burnt flavors than toasted flavors. There is a mild burnt bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty average beer with a promising nose but a somewhat disappointing flavor.
