Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Jockamo I.P.A. is a traditional India Pale Ale made with the best pale and light crystal malts that give the beer a copper color and malty flavor. This full-flavored beer is hopped and dry hopped liberally with Willamette and Columbus hops from the Pacific Northwest and has a 6.5% A.B.V. The spicy aroma of the hops contrasts nicely with the pleasant sweetness of the malts. Jockamo has a flavor that entices and excites the palate.

12oz bottle served into a Great Divide pint glass.
Review from notes:

A - Pours a copper orange with 2 fingers of rocky head with average retention. Very little lacing left behind.

S - Sweet crystal malts, citrus hops, bready aroma.

T - Matches the nose with sweet grainy malt, hints of caramel, citrus pith bitterness, doughy yeast, pine comes out as it warms. Hops come through stronger on the finish.

M - Thin feel with medium carbonation.

Nothing wrong with this, just an average IPA. I could take it or leave it.

First bottle from my Abita party pack. Poured into a pint glass. Beautiful color. A mix of golden and ruby hues. Smell is remini"scent " of hops but not nearly as as strong as id like with almost zero detectable undertones. Taste is similar. Vaguely hoppy with very little or none of the citrus and grassy notes that make ipas so great. Very smooth for an ipa and would probably pair with a wider variety of foods than a more traditional one. Overall decent but not nearly as pronounced as I'd like it to be. Its mildness would make it good for someone who has not had an ipa before.

Abita Jackamo IPA poured a light brown with a hint of orange. The head is thick, lacing the glass immediately with an off white taupe color. Finally some hops from Abita! The nose is very floral but still has some earthy grassy notes to it. It drinks a little flat at first. The presents of hops is what brings this beer to life. The hops are not over powering, most likely the Cajun European influence make this a very light IPA. As an overall beer I would rate it a C+. As an IPA style it drops in rating

Poured 12oz bottle into chilled pint glass. 1-1.5 finger solid foamy head. Dark orange color. Immediate smells of citrus and almost banana. There is a little bit of an awkward forward sweetness. There is a bitter balance in the finish. Not the best tasting IPA I have had in a while.

Poured from a 12oz can into a pint glass in high elevation Libby, Mont. Reviewed live. Best-by date 2/12/13, so it's a tad past its prime. Wish I had seen that a week ago.

A- Two-finger slightly off-white fluffy head. Several-minute long retention with some translucent ropes of lacing. Amber-red body with high clarity. Fairly attractive,

S- Pine and citrus. Some caramel malts. Not a very developed aroma, but not unappealing.

T- Medium bodied malts and some steely hops. Metallic and slightly bitter. Not a nice taste in my opinion.

M- Heavy and balanced toward the front. Finishes clean and wet.

O- It is an alright beer, a poor IPA and a good showing from Abita, a brewery I'm learning doesn't turn out much good national stuff.
