Jockamo IPAJockamo IPA

Brewed by:
Abita Brewing Co.
Louisiana, United States

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Jockamo I.P.A. is a traditional India Pale Ale made with the best pale and light crystal malts that give the beer a copper color and malty flavor. This full-flavored beer is hopped and dry hopped liberally with Willamette and Columbus hops from the Pacific Northwest and has a 6.5% A.B.V. The spicy aroma of the hops contrasts nicely with the pleasant sweetness of the malts. Jockamo has a flavor that entices and excites the palate.

Picked up bottles and poured into a glass. maybe people just don’t like columbus hops who are rating this beer, cause it is loaded with them. Nice clear reddish copper pour with a good amount of head. Dank spicy columbus on the nose. Maybe a little heavy on the malts as it tries to balance the large hop profile. I think it’s a solid beer when fresh. Not generally a fan of Abita, but think this is a nice ipa.

Opened: 03-12-2012
Bottled: Unknown (single bottle purchase)

Poured into an american flag laden pint glass.

A: clear light honey coloring, with a wispy white head that dissipates quickly

S: A light aroma of sweetness detected. Nothing else in particular, so rather simple.

T: A medium intensity blunt effect bitterness that covers the whole tongue but much like the head, dissipates quickly. The hops not being so intense results in rather drinkable beer. There is little to no lingering flavor for every sip, as one might expect (or want) with other hoppier IPAs.

M: lacking crispness in flavor, the carbonation is decent, so it all drinks well.

I had a sixteen ounce draft of this about a week ago at my local pub. This is not my favorite brewery and not my favorite IPA.

Appearance was a light gold/straw. Decent carbonation but it disipated pretty quickly.

Aroma was bready and little hoppy but really not enough.

Flavor was also not outstanding. More like an average pale ale than an ipa.

Overall I was underwhelmed, particularly as this was the only IPA on tap at the time.

Would not really recommend.
