Abbey Ale honors the ancient tradition of monks who perfected the art of brewing beer to support the monastery and their "liquid bread". We offer up our support and thank them with a 25¢ donation to St. Joseph's Abbey with every bottle sold of this heavenly brew. Dark amber in color, the aroma of caramel, fruits and cloves invites you to contemplate the creamy head of this "Dubbel" or double ale. Abita Abbey Ale is a malty brew, top-fermented and bottle aged to rapturous perfection.

look: 4 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5
Appearance:

Dark brown/almost chocolate. Red/amber highlights do show through when held to the light

Smell:

Fruity, roasted maltiness with a hint of spice

Taste:

A mixture of fruity malts hit first leaving a sweet aftertaste

Mouthfeel:

Full bodied brew which gives off a rather coarse feeling in the back of the throat. A bit of spice is left on the tongue

Overall:

This beer gets better as it warms. I was not a fan at all after the first sip. As it warmed up so did I... a little. At 8 % abv, it hides the alcohol taste very well. Not bad as a post dinner/desert sipper. Like I said, a bit harsh right out of the fridge though

From a bomber marked best by 1/11/17. Pours a semi-opaque copper color with a finger of fluffy white head. Smell is slightly sour with rich malt aromas. I'm already excited! Airy feel with the right amount of carbonation. Taste has dark fruit flavor up front followed by a rich malt and nut body. Very good beer, this one has the feel of a Belgian-made Dubbel, which is a big compliment for an American brewery.
