Notes: Turbodog is a dark brown ale brewed with Willamette hops and a combination of pale, crystal and chocolate malts. This combination gives Turbodog its rich body and color and a sweet chocolate toffee-like flavor. Turbodog began as a specialty ale but has gained a huge loyal following and has become one of our flagship brews.

This one has some auburn color going with it. Highly carbonated. Aroma has a bit of brown and chocolate malt vibe.

Some tea and toffee taste, mildly sweet. Smooth enough I guess, brown sugar, caramel and cinnamon. I like that it is heartier than the more popular Newcastle ale. This is about the viscosity and heft if you took a standard brown ale and mixed it like a black and tan with a porter. A tan and brown if you will.

3/10/15 Draft (The Laughing Man DC) - Very dark pour, nice tan head. Nice malt aroma with a hint of caramel. Strong harsh taste, chocolate toffee flavor taste. Liked this a lot. Texture decent carbonation, nice finish and decent kick. Very good beer.

A: Dark brown with ruby highlights, almost cola in colour. Light brown head is dense and has cling. Gobs of lacing down the sides.

S: Sweet malts in the aroma. Fruit cake, chocolate, coffee.

T: Flavor is the same as the aroma. Rich and smooth, full bodied with moderate carbonation. Gives you the impression of a dense loaf of bread with touches of chocolate and coffee.

AT: Dark Chocolate and Coffee at the end.

Dark cherry-stained brown under a tight and kept dome of beige.
Nose features rubber bands, bandaids and chocolate.
Taste follows suit. The dominating flavor is one of rubber bands. Not those little drawer-clutterers, but rather the huge industrial-strength 8 inchers. The ones that just reek. And you know how after you use a rubber band enough, it starts to gain a soiled, black hue? That is how this tastes.
Aside from that, some powdery nuts appears. Minor cocoa surges. Maybe toffee too? Hopping is present, but totally overmatched by latex.
This sucks. Enough said.
The body is decent enough, clocking in at a sturdy medium. But when the flavors are so godawful. Who cares?
I am hoping this bottle is either old or off.
But this seems like bad news regardless.
All apologizes to my sink, which suffered through more of this than I.

Into the pint glass a dark brown color thatÂ’s nearly opaque. Decent one-finger head that fades slowly leaving a solid cap and good lacing all the way down. Nose of sweet malts and some chocolate. Taste is pretty decent: sweet, sorghum-malty up front with a touch of chocolate, fading to a pretty clean mildly bitter finish. Mouth is moderately substantial and sufficiently carbonated to tickle the tongue. Drinkability is quite good; this is definitely a sessionable beer.

Overall: A good brown ale. Recommended.

12 oz. bottle,

A: Pours a very dark brown, you could mistake this for stout from afar, with a thick tan head, with better than average retention, limited sticky lacing.

S: Roast, toast, baked sugar, molasses and caramel.

T: A bite of burnt toast and sugar hits first, quite bitter actually, with a bit of hop bitterness mixed in, which evolves or devolves into caramel sugar ending. This beer is more subtle than other American made browns that I have had before, but I enjoy its subtle character.

M: OK, except I think the carbonation takes up too much of the mouthfeel causing an overall feel that is kind of hollow in flavour.

D: A nice drinkable brown, sort of a nice introduction to the style, a beer that would pair nicely with a freshly cooked steak.

I am a fan of dark flavorful ales and this beer met that mark well.

It started with a cream colored head two fingers thick in a frosted pint glass. The aroma was light but smelled of of sweetness and maybe a hint of fruit or citrus.

on the tongue it started with a mild sweetness that hinted at chocolate and coffee or toffee mingled with malt and perhaps bread followed by a slightly fruity lightly citrus flavor and a bite of hops and warm alcohol.

this beer finishes a bit dry and lingers on the palate, but in a good way. Good balance over all. A must try for any beer drinker.

Turbodog: at the very least, I like the name. For a brown ale, it’s as black a beer as I’ve seen lately. Very nice rich head, clinging to the side the whole way down. Strong malt (burnt/chocolate tastes). Nice hints of licorice in the first taste, and throughout the aftertaste, although there are slight hints of grain as well. Very nice.

I've heard good things about Turbodog, and was eager to try it.

Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights. Small light brown head. Smells earthy, with some nut and caramel content. Nothing spectactular, but nice.

Taste is, again, very nutty/earthy. There's definitely a bit of roastiness and maltiness to it, but neither is predominant. There's a sweet fruit tang, but for the life of me (and I tried), I couldn't figure out it was.

Mouthfeel is great, with some zesty carbonation. Very drinkable. I can't believe it's above 6%. What does this brew normally cost?

Glass - Pint

A - Dark dark brown color with a bit of ruby red when held to light. It produced a 1-2 finger tan head that dissipated a little quick. It left a spot & splotch on my glass but no lacing.

S - Toffee & roasted nuts with hints of a standard breakfast blended coffee. Soft chocolate with mild leafy hop notes.

T - Leafy citrus hop flavors are more pronounced than expected upfront. It unfolds into rich nutty flavors with peanut brittle like notes & toffee. It finishes with mild bitterness, unsweetened cocoa & a touch of herbal hop.

M - Smooth & somewhat creamy with around moderate crispness but a little bit more than that, it's a bit too much C02 for my liking.

D - A nice quaff-able brew with good malty flavors & a nice hop flavor profile. I'd sit down with 2-3 pints sometime but nothing I'd buy again, I was kinda looking for just a bit more toffee in the flavor but not bad at all. It's worth a try.

A - dark brown cola color. ruby highlights. tall, creamy mocha head reduces to about an inch.

S - bitter coffee, bittersweet chocolate and some caramel malts.

T/M - pretty standard brown ale. very similar to the nose. predominantly coffee and bittersweet chocolate but a hint of sweetness. medium bodied at most. mild carbonation. finishes with a slightly bitter aftertaste.

D - this is a solid beer. nothing really special, but decent for the price. considerably drinkable. sessionable.

Side poured with standard vigor from a bottle into a pint glass. Picked up as a mix and match six pack element.

Appearance - Pours a nice deep brown color with a solid, one finger head of tasty looking tan head that shows good lacing and retention. Pretty boring packaging, nothing really stands out about it.

Smell - Sweet malts, breads, a little caramel and some toast. There is a slight hint of something sweet, toffee perhaps. Nothing groundbreaking here

Taste - A little roasted caramel, some malts, breads, etc. Again, nothing really here to write home about. Relatively boring.

Mouthfeel - Finishes crisp, clean, and smooth. One of the better parts of the brew.

Overall - All in all, a boring beer. Nothing stands out here, nothing to really write about. Just a standard brown beer, bland. I wouldn't necessarily buy again. I would drink it though, for free.
