Hazy orange brown with a finger's width white head. A salty, sour aroma -- like a gose with a touch of lime. Tastes the same, with just a hint of tequila and a distinct woody flavor. Maybe a bit heavy on the lime and light on the tequila in the taste, but pretty great altogether.

If a beer could be sour and a margarita, this is it. Delivers as billed.

Sour, Puckering, Lime, Salt
Number 28 in Avery's Barrel-Aged Series, this sour ale was aged in Suerte tequila barrels with lime zest and salt, and fermented with Saccharomyces, Brettanomyces, Lactobacillus and Pediococcus. It pours amber with a touch of cloudiness and a thin lace. The nose is full of agave, lime zest, brine, overripe fruit, straw, pepper and funk. Light-bodied with snappy carbonation. Raw, biting, tangy and bitter with a big puckering smack of lime, Fortuna is acidic and salty with stone fruit notes and a dry, oaky linger. The tequila barrel notes are subtle, but overall it tastes similar to doing a tequila shot, biting into a lime wedge, and licking the salt off your hand.
As reviewed in BeerAdvocate magazine #103 (August 2015).

As the indisputable flavor of margarita creeps into the minds of the brewers of Avery, a sour ale comes forth; displaying all the briny, sour, salty, fruity flavors of the appetizing tropical beverage that captivates the palate with refreshment, tang and surprising succulence.
Caught somewhere between orange and gold, the ale's faint haze displays the sun-kissed rays while shedding a creamy, short-statured froth. Sharp aromas whet the palate with a breadth of lime, green apple, lemon, agave, white wine and slight dough. And as its supple sweetness dissolves on the tongue, a short-lived sweet fructose flavor trends sour even to start.
As the middle palate opens up, its sweetness fades and the more sour attributes take hold- those leathered limes, lemon peels, orange peels, passionfruit, dehydrated pineapple, and unmistakable agave flavors tease the tastebuds with pin-point sourness that surprisingly extends into those salty, sweaty flavors to close. As burlap, attic oak and cork must come to mind, the ale trends quickly toward finish.
Light, fresh and musty- its unique flavor suggests a highly refreshing taste, dry texture and effortless drinkability early and late. Its a crime that this beer is this quenching and has to cost this much. It's an ale that suggests a high rate of consumption, but with the culinary art that recommends deep contemplation. What's a beer drinker to do?

Nose: super complex and interesting. It's alive. It has an assertive yeast that is clearly still kicking. Initial nose yields to an assertive sharp smell reminiscent of aspirin and rock salt. Delivers more in the nose than many beers ever achieve on the pallet.
Pallet: lime is a bit assertive, but it grows on you. Life on the nose blends beautifully with the crisp & sour aftertaste.
Would be great to pair with foods. Ceviche, diver scallops, Veracruz style foods.
