A shout out to the sailor of stouts, woodychandler, for providing this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a black color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of coffee, smoke. Taste is smokey, roasted malts, some bitterness, hints of charcoal. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a mediocre beer.

This beer may -- or may not -- be heavenly. But I'm drinking it in heaven; eating brownies and watching the Cubs winning game 7 of the World Series.

Pours black, with less than a finger of khaki colored head. Fair retention, with a few strands of lacing left behind for keeps. Slightly musty, malty aroma note, backed with biscuit and toasted malts with a smidgen of chocolate. Flavor profile refrains from making too much of a statement. There are notes of roasted and musty malts, with chocolate, and a little pine hop bite at the back. Mouth feel is on the thin side, and almost watery. Overall, it's a fine stout that is easily drinkable for those concerned with pounding their dark beer faster, or for those who find the thick winter stouts to be too much.

Served in a 12oz snifter.

Black in color with no light penetration. There's a quarter inch of creamy brown on top. The aroma is of bitter black malt with just a faint trace of smokiness. The flavor is an outstanding blend of bitter roasted malt with a lightly smokey note. There's a sweet dark licorice note at the end. What a ride for the palate! The mouth is creamy and smooth. Vastly underrated.

Pours Dark with a tan small head. Smells of Coffee and Chocolate, and malts. Taste is a deep coffee and Chocolate malts and a nice perfect Bitterness. Finishing with a bitter Chocolate Flavor. It Feels very smooth in your Mouth and Refreshing! I give it an overall rating of 5. This is a very GOOD Stout, what an American Stout should be. Give this one a try, you will like it I sure did!

Hazelnut pour forms a dark chocolate black with brown edges. 2 finger head to start, 1/2 finger retention. Hilly lace.

Aromas of milk sugars, caramel malts, and light roastiness.

Flavor is a bit thin, with some metallic characteristics; equal amounts of caramel malts and roasted barley; hints of campfire smoke and burnt ash. Some lactose sugars linger among the finish.

Feel is also on the thin side, with some dull carbonation and a roasty/chapped finish.

Overall, I feel $8.99 for a six pack wasn't too big of a gamble, and it wasn't - but I'd be pissed if I paid more. Out of Bounds just doesn't deliver, it's just an uninspiring beer brewed with dark malts. Ironically its namesake is practically their approach to this stout - not even within boundaries of spec. Pass on it if you see it.

Poured from a 12oz bottle with a bottled on date of 7/11/16; into a pint glass.
Appearance- dark, but plenty of light penetrates giving an off brown mahogany tone. Bubbles very visable on the sides; head is a medium, froathy layer of beige. Lacing is thick and sticky!
Smell - chocolate brownie and sweet caramel, very nice actually!
Taste - very pleasantly surprised! Big and bold roasted coffee flavors teamed with pine hop notes!
Feel - medium body, robust flavor profile with a stellar malt to hop balance; finish is a bit dry, but overall feel is full!
Overall - I've somehow managed to miss this year round option from Avery that is easy to find; my expectations were low and this one proved to be a keeper!
